2012 Heisman Trophy: Matt Barkley Starts Strong

A preseason Heisman favorite and the quarterback of the AP's No. 1-ranked team, quarterback Matt Barkley's debut in his senior season as the leader of the USC Trojans went about as well as a Heisman hopeful could hope against the Hawaii Warriors.

After his first pass of the day to sophomore wide receiver Marqise Lee went for 75 yards and a touchdown to put the Trojans on the board before even 20 seconds had come off the clock, Barkley picked apart the Warrior defense for 377 yards and four touchdowns in USC's 49-10 victory.

In the senior's final season opener at Los Angeles's Memorial Coliseum, Barkley connected most often with Lee, who finished the game with 202 yards and a touchdown on 10 receptions. Preseason All-American wide receiver Robert Woods caught two touchdowns and had 42 yards receiving on the day.

Barkley took snaps through the fourth quarter, but was eventually relieved by backup quarterback Max Wittek with the Trojans already well on their way to victory.
