USC Trojans point guard Maurice Jones will be transferring from the program. Jones announced the move via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning. The junior from Saginaw, Mich. said he was "on his way home" soon.
Jones was USC's most important player during the 2011-12 season. He played in nearly 95 percent of the available minutes, leading the Pac-12. Jones was USC's leading scorer, while also pacing the team in assists and steals. He wasn't always efficient for USC, as he struggled to convert inside the arc. The 5'7 guard made just 36 percent of his two-point shots and 66 percent of his free throws.
With Jones at the helm, USC sputtered to a 6-26 record last year, and finished with a 10-game losing streak following their lone conference win over Utah on Jan. 28.
The Trojans weren't expecting to have Jones on the court this season. He had been ruled academically ineligible.
