USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley is still the overwhelming front runner to win the Heisman Trophy according to the most recent Heismanpundit/CBSSports.com Straw Poll.
Barkley doubled the total of his closet contender. He garnered 28 points and nine-of-11 first place votes. West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Geno Smith is in second place with 14 votes. Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Collin Klein and USC wide receiver Marqise Lee collected the two other first-place votes
The USC quarterback was on fire in a 42-29 victory over Syracuse in Week 2. Barkley through for only 187 yards but logged six touchdowns along the way for a QB rating of 188.4. He has thrown 46-for-68 for 559 yards, 10 touchdowns and only one interception through the first two games.
Barkley has received nine first-place votes for three weeks in a row to maintain a healthy cushion on the top.
