USC Trojans defensive end Nick Perry is just one of the Southern California players who figures to do well in the 2012 NFL Draft.
In their latest mock draft, Walter Football predicts that Perry will head to the Detroit Lions in the first round, as the No. 23 overall selection. Here is their take:
Another first-round defensive lineman!? Well, it's no secret that Jim Schwartz loves bolstering his pass rush. Defensive end will be a big need for the Lions if free agent Cliff Avril leaves. Detroit doesn't have the cap space to give Avril the money he wants.
With 33-year-old Kyle Vanden Bosch declining, the Lions will have to find help up front. And besides, Nick Perry fits Detroit's best-player-available M.O.
It's a very deep class of linemen in the 2012 draft. Perry to the Lions is an interesting idea and he could certainly thrive there if everything goes well.
