USC Trojans offensive tackle Matt Kalil is the consensus pick as the top player at his position in the 2012 NFL Draft. Were it not for a quarterback by the name of Andrew Luck, there is a very real possibility that Kalil would wind up as the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft. As it is, Kalil still figures to draft very high, with most analysts agreeing that he will be picked in the top three.
In their latest mock draft, Walter Football predicts Kalil will be selected at No. 3 overall in the first round, going to the Minnesota Vikings. Here is what they have to say:
This really is as much of a no-brainer as Andrew Luck to the Colts. If Matt Kalil is on the board, the Vikings won't spend two minutes handing in their draft card. Of course, I won't be happy about this because I won't have enough time to write stupid things in my live draft blog.
Kalil is the best non-quarterback in this class, and Minnesota has a major need at left tackle, where the pedestrian Charlie Johnson has sucked all year. The Vikings absolutely need to make sure Christian Ponder is well protected.
Whichever team ultimately selects Kalil, their offensive line will be instantly improved.
