The USC Trojans will face the Texas Longhorns in the consolation bracket of the 2012 Maui Invitational on Tuesday. The Trojans suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Illinois in their quarterfinal game. The Illini were able to take USC out of their methodical comfort zone and dictate a faster pace. Illinois shredded the Trojans in the first half to build an insurmountable lead before cruising to a 94-64 victory.
Texas was upset by the tournament hosts, Division II Chaminade, 86-73. The Longhorns never had a chance in the second half, as the Silverswords built a double-digit lead they never relinquished.
USC meets Texas at 2 p.m. PT. The game will be shown on ESPN2.
The Trojans and Longhorns now have identical 2-1 records. Texas will be favored on Tuesday, with KenPom.com predicting a 65-53 win with 89 percent confidence. The Longhorns will be looking to clamp USC down on defense, and the score should be much lower than the Trojan's tilt with Illinois.
