Arizona State vs. USC 2012: Conquest Chronicles finally treated to some defense

The writers over at Conquest Chronicles finally got something besides pure offense from USC in the Trojans' 38-17 win over Arizona State Saturday.

The USC Trojans got a much needed 38-17 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils this past Saturday in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

After giving up 1,318 total yards in their previous two losses to Oregon and Arizona, the Trojans held ASU to only 250 yards. And even though USC's offense coughed up the ball five times, their defense had four takeaways to make up for Matt Barkley's sloppiness.

And those encouraging numbers were at the forefront of Conquest Chronicles' "Three Takeaways" recap. Here's what SB Nation's USC blog had to say about the Trojans' strong defensive performance Saturday:

"Linebacker Lamar Dawson was all over the field after his embarrassing performance against Oregon last week, a welcome addition to the front seven. Though the hype (after the requisite amount of prep) of Lee playing defense came to fruition via one appearance and no play - ASU had a delay of game - the defense quietly did its job. Good job, Monte Kiffin."

Trojan fans will be hoping for a similarly solid showing next Saturday in their Pac-12 South determining matchup against the UCLA Bruins.
