The USC Trojans are knotted with the Arizona State Sun Devils, 7-7, after one quarter of play on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. A crucial mistake hurt the Trojans early, and allowed the Sun Devils prime position to get on the board first.
Star wide receiver Marqise Lee fumbled the ball on USC's first play from scrimmage to set Arizona State up on the Trojans' 38. Five plays later, Taylor Kelly hit Chris Coyle for the touchdown to put the Trojans in a 7-point hole.
Lee would make up for his mistake as Matt Barkley hit him for an 80-yard touchdown to start a wild sequence of plays at the end of the quarter. The ensuing kickoff was fumbled by ASU, giving the ball back to USC deep in Sun Devils territory.
On the next play, Barkley was intercepted by Chris Young at the 2-yard line. ASU has the ball as the second quarter begins.
