In what ended up ending any chance at sneaking into the national championship game, the USC Trojans' 39-36 loss to the Arizona Wildcats gave a glimpse into the type of talent they were squandering by falling to Pac-12 opponents they were clearly capable of beating.
Marqise Lee put on a show you don't see very often. With 16 catches for 345 yards and two touchdowns, he gave head coach Lane Kiffin flashbacks to Reggie Bush's heyday as a skill position player like no other. He broke the school and conference records for receiving yards and missed the NCAA all-time record by only 60 yards.
But to Lee, the numbers didn't matter. His team still lost. The tears still came:
"I don't go into the game thinking about what I catch and how many yards I have. It's not about the stats. I don't care about the stats. My main focus is winning the game.
"We didn't win, so that's why I'm upset."
Lee aided quarterback Matt Barkley in setting records of his own. Barkley finished with 493 passing yards on Saturday which is a new school record. He broke his own record of 468 which was set last season again against Arizona.
