NFL Mock Draft 2012: Matt Kalil Projected For No. 3 Overall To Minnesota Vikings (Again)

For all of the uncertainty the surrounds the 2012 NFL Draft, it sure seems like there is some certainty surrounding USC Trojans star offensive tackle Matt Kalil. Just about every Mock Draft around right now has Kalil going No. 3 overall to the Minnesota Vikings to protect Christian Ponder, Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart and the latest mock from Rob Rang of CBS Sports sees this happening as well.

Matt Kalil, OT, Southern California: Considering the pass rushers in the NFC North division, high-caliber blindside tackles are required. The Vikings aren't likely to pass on an opportunity to draft a future Pro Bowler. That's exactly what Kalil represents. Scouts would like to see Kalil play with more consistent technique, but he's been able to dominate at the collegiate level based only on his size (6-6, 295) and athleticism.

There's always the chance the Vikings try to land an electric playmaker in the form of Robert Griffin III or Justin Blackmon, but it truly appears the team is dedicated to building around Ponder and the pieces already in place. In addition to a receiver or quarterback, some believe Minnesota may take a serious look at LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne.
