NFL Mock Draft 2012: Minnesota Vikings Projected To Select Matt Kalil

Matt Kalil has everything a team could possibly want in an offensive lineman. Gifted with incredible size, impressive athleticism, great technique and strong bloodlines, there is no doubt that Kalil will be one of the top selections of the 2012 NFL Draft. It what seems to be a continuing trend, the Minnesota Vikings are projected to select the USC offensive tackle in the latest mock draft from SI.com.

3. Minnesota Vikings -- Matt Kalil, OT, USC
Vikings GM Rick Spielman told quarterback Christian Ponder they wouldn't draft someone to compete with him. Instead, they'll try to beef up a line that allowed 49 sacks last season. Kalil didn't allow a sack at USC last season and he has the bloodlines -- his brother Ryan is a Pro Bowl center on the Panthers.

It will be interesting to see if Minnesota stays true to their supposed draft strategy in 2012 or if they will be tempted to look elsewhere if an opportunity presents itself. Assuming the franchise is dedicated to making the Ponder experiment work, it only makes sense to draft an elite offensive tackle to protect his blind side. Adrian Peterson and/or Toby Gerhart would also benefit greatly from the addition of Kalil. The first round of the NFL Draft is scheduled for Thursday, April 26.
