College Football Rankings, Week 12: Will USC Rise In AP Poll Top 25?

The USC Trojans had their second straight blowout win on Saturday, a 40-17 victory over the Washington Huskies at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. USC moved up three spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 18 last week, and hope to be on the rise again when the college football rankings are released Sunday morning.

Six teams in the AP poll top 25 lost on Saturday:

  • No. 3 Stanford lost at home, 53-30 to No. 6 Oregon
  • No. 5 Boise State lost at home, 36-35 to TCU
  • No. 12 Penn State lost at home, 17-14 to No. 19 Nebraska
  • No. 20 Georgia Tech lost at home, 37-26 to No. 10 Virginia Tech
  • No. 23 Cincinnati lost at home, 24-21 to West Virginia
  • No. 24 Auburn lost on the road, 45-7 to No. 14 Georgia

It doesn't appear USC has much room to rise. Should Penn State drop far enough to fall below USC, it might be likely to be offset by No. 19 Nebraska leapfrogging the Trojans after a win against a tougher opponent, and on the road. USC had 502 points in last week's poll compared to 546 points for No. 17 Kansas State, who struggled to a four-overtime win at home against unranked Texas A&M, so maybe there is one spot to be gained for USC.

Look for USC to be anywhere from No. 16 to No. 18 in Sunday's AP poll.
