UCLA Basketball Scandal Brewing? Sports Illustrated Expose Coming

The UCLA Bruins basketball team and head coach Ben Howland could be in trouble soon if this Sports Illustrated feature is as bad as it sounds. Drugs could be the topic.

The doom is strong in Westwood. The UCLA Bruins are mired through another uninspiring season that will likely see themselves punch tickets to the NIT about a week and a half from now.

And now it appears UCLA basketball is about to receive scrutiny for their actions off the court as well. According to Inside UCLA's Facebook page, a story is brewing, and it's not going to be one that warms the hearts of the fans of Westwood.

‎#UCLA HC Ben Howland on upcoming SI expose: "Specifically, I can't talk about any former player or student relative to anything having to do with that. We have a comprehensive drug policy here at UCLA where any time someone fails a drug test, I'm alerted, school's alerted and player is alerted, and I think we have a good program in place for all teams to receive education and counseling and receive discipline."

Well, the fact that Howland is going out and talking about the strength of the drug program makes you think it's a drug issue. (Just going out on a limb there, I know.)

UCLA hasn't really had to deal with many off-the-court issues, although players have been a little transfer-happy the last few seasons. It certainly doesn't help Howland when he's probably fighting for his job down the stretch, and could be the final nail in the coffin for the Bruins to try and dump him.
