UCLA Vs. California: Bruins Seek Weekend Sweep At Home

UCLA lost to Cal 85-69 at Haas Pavilion on December 31.

The UCLA Bruins look to continue their winning ways at home on Saturday afternoon as they host the California Golden Bears at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. UCLA has won 10 straight home games but face a tough test on Saturday, as the Bears are tied for first place in the Pac-12 Conference with Washington.

UCLA (14-10, 7-5) lost 85-69 to Cal at Haas Pavilion on December 31, and needs a win on Saturday to avoid their first sweep against the Bears since the 1993-1994 season. A win for the Bruins could move them to within one game of first place in the Pac-12.

Lazeric Jones scored 21 points and had six assists Thursday night in the Bruins' 72-61 victory over Stanford, the ninth game this season that Jones led the team in scoring. Jones lead UCLA this season in scoring (13.3 points per game), assists (4.44 per game), and steals (1.87 per game).

Travis Wear returned from a left ankle sprain to score 13 points and grab six rebounds Thursday night for UCLA

Jorge Gutierrez scored 34 points in a win over UCLA last season, and is averaging 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in his senior season this year. Harper Kamp of Cal needs one point to reach 1,000 points in his career. Cal (19-6, 9-3) needs a win against UCLA to achieve its first four-game sweep of UCLA and USC since the 1958-1959 season.

Saturday afternoon's 1 p.m. PST game will be televised by Prime Ticket. For more news and information on UCLA basketball, be sure to read Bruins Nation.
