2012 bowl projections: UCLA, West Virginia headed for Holiday Bowl?

The latest SB Nation bowl projections have UCLA squaring off against West Virginia in the Holiday Bowl.

UCLA was bowl eligible in October, moved into first place in November and will be heading to the Holiday Bowl in December, according to the latest SB Nation bowl projections. The Holiday Bowl features the third choice Pac-12 team and the fifth choice Big 12 team, which would mean a UCLA vs. West Virginia clash in San Diego, if the projections are correct.

The Bruins actually check in as the fourth Pac-12 choice in these projections because Oregon is picked for the National Title game, pushing everyone in the conference up a slot. USC is projected to be the number two pick and playing in the Rose Bowl, with third pick Stanford in the Alamo Bowl.

UCLA can certainly aim much higher than the Holiday Bowl, though. They currently lead the Pac-12 South, a game ahead of USC, and host the Trojans on November 17. A win there, and a berth in the Pac-12 Title Game would give the Bruins a chance at the Rose Bowl if Oregon does indeed go to the National Title Game.

West Virginia is currently 5-3 overall, but just 2-3 in the Big 12, where they are in seventh place. Their high powered offense going up against the UCLA offense that put up 66 points on Saturday night against Arizona would make for one awfully entertaining Holiday Bowl.
