2013 Rose Bowl projections: Stanford, Nebraska headed to Pasadena?

Stanford and Nebraska are projected to win their conference championships this weekend for a right to play in the 2013 Rose Bowl.

With only two games left to officially decide it, CBS Sports is currently projecting the Rose Bowl to be a battle between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Stanford Cardinal.

Both teams will be playing in their conference championship games this weekend with Stanford set for a rematch against UCLA Friday at 5 p.m. PT and Nebraska preparing to play Wisconsin on Saturday at the same time.

If CBS Sports is correct in their prediction, this will be the second time that Stanford and Nebraska have met in the Rose Bowl. Back in 1941, the Cardinal defeated the Cornhuskers 21-13 for their third victory in the history of the game.

If Wisconsin and UCLA make it instead, it would be the third time that those teams have met in this particular bowl game. The Badgers defeated the Bruins twice in the 1990s with a 21-16 victory in 1994 and a 38-31 victory in 1998.

As for the other possible matchups, Stanford has met Wisconsin once in the Rose Bowl with their only matchup being a 17-9 Badger victory back in 2000. And despite 12 Rose Bowl appearances, the UCLA Bruins have never battled against Nebraska in the 97-year history of the game. UCLA did face off against Nebraska this year though, earning a 36-30 victory at home back on Sept. 8.

Kickoff for the 2013 Rose Bowl is currently scheduled for 2:10 p.m. PT in Pasadena with live coverage on ESPN.
