Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Lazeric Jones led the Bruins with 16 points as UCLA took down Richmond 71-63 in a non-conference bout at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Travis Wear finished with 14 points for UCLA (7-5) as it won its fifth- straight game. Jerime Anderson scored 13 points and dished out six assists, David Wear chipped in 12 points, and Joshua Smith had 11. David Wear and Anderson pulled down seven rebounds each.
Darien Brothers paced Richmond (7-6) with 25 points. Derrick Williams scored 14 and Kendall Anthony was a spark off the bench with 10 points. Darrius Garrett grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Spiders. The contest was tied 24-24 at the intermission after both teams struggled offensively in the opening period. Richmond shot 30.8 percent from the field while UCLA connected on 11-of-35 attempts from the floor in the first half. The Bruins took control as they heated up after the break making 61.5 percent of their shots from the floor in the second half. The Spiders shot just 35.7 percent from the floor in the second half, but kept it close by knocking down 6-of-16 from three-point range. UCLA extended its lead to 11 with 17 seconds left to play. UCLA dominated inside in the contest as it outscored the visitors in the paint 38-10 and won the rebounding battle 42-30.
