The UCLA Bruins completely overmatched the UC Davis Aggies early on Saturday, and take a 43-15 lead into halftime at Honda Center in Anaheim. The Aggies had no match inside for the Bruins, as Joshua Smith and David Wear combined for 23 points and seven rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
UCLA outrebounded UC Davis 24-13 in the opening half, and held the Aggies to just 19.2% shooting (five for 26). The Bruins had runs of 10-0 and 18-0 and were up 29-4 at one point. For a while it looked like UCLA might have set a new school record for fewest points allowed in a half, but the nine points scored by Howard against the Bruins in 1983 still stands.
The Bruins shot 53.6% (15 for 28) in the first half, including making 14 of 20 (70%) two-point field goals. With a win on Saturday, the Bruins would move to .500 on the season.
