UCLA Holds On, Beats Oregon St, 62-57

Corvallis, OR (Sports Network) - Reeves Nelson scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the UCLA Bruins to a 62-57 win over the Oregon State Beavers in a Pac-10 Conference showdown at Gill Coliseum. Lazeric Jones also added 13 points for the Bruins (10-6, 2-2 PAC-10), while Joshua Smith chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.

OSU (7-9, 2-3) was paced by Roberto Nelson, who netted 13 points in a losing effort. The Bruins took control of the contest in the first half, shooting 65.2 percent from the floor, to take a 37-22 lead at the break. UCLA kept the pressure on in the second stanza, knocking down 8-of-14 free- throws en route to a five-point victory. The Bruins were tenacious on defense, limiting the Beavers to just 32.3 percent shooting from the floor, including a dismal 3-of-16 performance from three-point territory.
