Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Joshua Smith's double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds helped the UCLA Bruins defeat the Cal Poly Mustangs, 72-61, in a non-conference showdown at Pauley Pavilion. Reeves Nelson scored 13 points in the win for UCLA (4-4), while Tyler Honeycutt added 11.
Cal Poly (3-5) was led by David Hanson's 18 points in the loss. Shawn Lewis contributed 13 points, while Chris O'Brien added 10. UCLA took a 34-26 advantage into the intermission despite shooting a mediocre 44.0 percent from the floor in the opening half. The Bruins secured the win after holding Cal Poly to just 37.9 percent shooting from the field in the second stanza. UCLA won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Mustangs by a 39-24 margin en route to the victory.
