The Los Angeles Dodgers ended their homestand on a relative high note on Wednesday night with their 6-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. But for Jerry Sands the results were mixed, as he was optioned to Triple A Albuquerque after the game.

Sands was recalled on Monday but appeared in just one game, going 0-for-3 Monday while starting in right field to give Andre Ethier a day off. Sands hit .174 (4-for-23) in nine games in two stints with the Dodgers this season.

The Dodgers haven't yet made the corresponding move, but that will be the activation of Adam Kennedy from the disabled list on Friday before their game against the Miami Marlins.

In other roster news, outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. accepted his assignment to Triple A Albuquerque. Gwynn was designated for assignment on Monday when Sands was recalled. Gwynn, whose playing time opportunities vanished with the acquisition of Shane Victorino, could see time in September when active rosters expand as a pinch runner and defensive replacement.

Matt Kemp homered and Shane Victorino had three hits and three runs scored, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Colorado Rockies 6-4 on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Dodgers, who remained a game and a half behind San Francisco in the National League West.

Kemp homered in the first inning off Jeff Francis, his 17th home run of the season and ninth off of left-handed pitching. The three-run shot gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead.

The Rockies tied the game in the fourth inning, but the Dodgers answered back with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Victorino scored the go-ahead run on a bases loaded walk by Hanley Ramirez, then drove in a run in the sixth and scored another.

Chad Billingsley allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings for his fourth consecutive victory.

Eric Young Jr. led off the game with an inside-the-park home run to center field, a ball that bounced off the wall away from Kemp. Young also added a single in the seventh inning to cut the Dodgers' lead to 6-4, and completed a very productive series for the speedy outfielder. Young had eight hits and a walk in the three games, and scored five runs.

Josh Rutledge hit a pair of run-scoring doubles, leading the Colorado Rockies to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium, the second straight loss for the Dodgers.

Rutledge, the rookie who has filled in superbly for the injured Troy Tulowitzki at shortstop, went ... on the night with three runs batted in. Rutledge is hitting .356 on the season with 16 extra-base hits in 22 games for the Rockies.

Aaron Harang (7-7) took the loss for the Dodgers, allowing three runs in six innings. He pitched to two batters in the seventh inning.

The Dodgers managed just four hits as they were shutout for the second straight game by the Rockies. Alex White pitched four scoreless innings despite walking five and striking out only two, and he was followed by three scoreless frames from Josh Roenicke.

Eric Young Jr. went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored for the Rockies, his second straight night with three hits and two runs scored.

Hanley Ramirez had two of the Dodgers' four hits, scoring their only run.

Chad Billingsley gets the start for the Dodgers in the series finale on Wednesday, facing Jeff Francis for Colorado.

Four pitchers combined to shutout the Dodgers on Monday night, as the Rockies walked away with a 2-0 victory in the first game of a three-game series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers remain a half-game behind San Francisco in the National League West.

The Rockies have been limiting the pitch counts for their starters for over a month, experimenting with a four-man rotation. As such, Drew Pomeranz was pulled after striking out seven in his four shutout innings. Relief pitcher Adam Ottavino followed with three scoreless innings of his own.

Chris Capuano pitched seven strong innings for the Dodgers, allowing two runs on nine hits, with a walk and six strikeouts. But he suffered the loss, his fifth in six games, thanks to the lack of run support.

The Rockies scored single runs in the first and third innings, both scored by Eric Young Jr. after he singled. Carlos Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give Colorado a 1-0 lead, and Jordan Pacheco singled in young in the third to give the Rockies a 2-0 advantage.

The Dodgers had the tying runs in base in the seventh and eighth innings but could not draw closer.

Aaron Harang gets the call on Tuesday for the Dodgers, starting against Alex White for Colorado.

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a roster move on Monday before their series with the Colorado Rockies, as they designated Tony Gwynn Jr. for assignment and recalled Jerry Sands from Triple A Albuquerque.

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a roster move on Monday before their series with the Colorado Rockies, as they designated Tony Gwynn Jr. for assignment and recalled Jerry Sands from Triple A Albuquerque.

Gwynn hit .232/.276/.293 in 103 games for the Dodgers, and often saw time as a late inning defensive replacement in left field. But with the acquisition of Shane Victorino last week, the Dodgers have three outfielders who will pretty much play every game, and nearly every inning.

"Shane changes the dynamic of the outfield," manager Don Mattingly said on Wednesday. "There's really no double switching, there's no platooning. The only place the at-bats really come are from pinch hitting."

Sands was hitting .286/.368/.521 in Triple A this season, including .339/.422/.627 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI in 31 games since July 1. He will likely play first base, where James Loney and Juan Rivera have made 104 of 110 starts. Dodgers first basemen have hit .252/.299/.355 with six home runs and 48 RBI this season.
