The Los Angeles Dodgers had an off day to recover from getting swept in three games at home to Arizona, and on Friday look to get back on track with a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium. Here is a look at the series schedule and pitching probables.

Friday, 7:10 p.m. PDT (Prime Ticket)

Chad Billingsley (6-9, 3.89 ERA) has been stellar since returning from the disabled list, winning both of his starts and allowing just one run in total. Jeff Samardzija (7-8, 4.19) gets the call for the Cubs in the series opener.

Saturday, 6:10 p.m. PDT (Prime Ticket)

Clayton Kershaw (8-6, 2.95) shutout the Giants in San Francisco on Sunday, and looks for his ninth win of the year. Chris Volstad (0-7, 7.94) was just recalled from Iowa to make the start for Chicago.

Sunday, 1:10 p.m. PDT (KCAL)

Aaron Harang (7-6, 3.76) starts the series finale for the Dodgers, facing Justin Germano (1-1, 3.38), making his third appearance for Chicago.

The trio of terror for the Diamondbacks helped spoil Shane Victorino's debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon, as Arizona won 4-0 to complete a three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium.

Paul Goldschmidt didn't homer for the first time all series, but he went 3-for-3 with a run scored on Wednesday. He finished the series 8-for-12 with two home runs, five RBI, and four runs scored.

Miguel Montero went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run home run in the eighth inning that basically put the game away. Montero was 4-for-9 during the series with two home runs and six RBI.

Chris Johnson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk, and ended his first series with Arizona by hitting .545 (6-for-11) with two home runs, a double, and seven RBI.

Those three supported Patrick Corbin, who pitched six scoreless innings for his third victory of the season. Stephen Fife, in his third major league start, allowed only two runs, but he allowed nine baserunners in his 4 1/3 innings. He was pulled with a runner on base down 2-0 in the fifth inning.

"My efficiency wasn't so good today. I was the next guy up in the lineup, and we were down 2-0," Fife said. "My role on this team is to get as deep as we can and give us a chance to win, and I gave up two too many runs today."

Victorino went 0-for-4 in his first game as a Dodger, but he wasn't the only Dodger to make his debut with the team on Wednesday. Brandon League pitched in relief in the eighth inning, allowing one of the two batters he faced to reach base. That runner scored on Montero's home run.

The Dodgers are off on Thursday, then open a series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

For the second straight night at Dodger Stadium, a pair of home runs gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 8-2 win by Arizona brought them to within two and a half games of the Dodgers in the National League West.

Paul Goldschmidt homered in the first inning for the second time in as many night in this series. Luckily for the Dodgers, his home run was only a two-run shot on Tuesday instead of the three-run blast he hit on Monday. Goldschmidt's 15th home run of the season gave the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead.

The Dodgers answered in the bottom of the inning when Mark Ellis homered to left field, his fourth of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

But Miguel Montero answered with a two-out, three-run home run of Chris Capuano in the sixth inning to give the Diamondbacks a 5-1 advantage.

Capuano (10-7) allowed five runs in six innings, suffering his fourth loss in his last five starts.

Wade Miley (12-6) allowed one run in eight innings, picking up the win for Arizona.

Rookie pitcher Stephen Fife makes his third major league start on Wednesday afternoon as the Dodgers try to avoid a sweep at home, while fellow rookie Patrick Corbin gets the call for the Diamondbacks.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will add outfielder Shane Victorino to their active roster on Wednesday, as he is expected to start Wednesday's series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks. But the Dodgers will have to make a corresponding move to make room for Victorino, and so far the team is mum on the pending transaction.

The club already added Victorino to the 40-man roster on Tuesday by designating pitcher Michael Antonini for assignment. That removers the right-hander from the roster and if he clears waivers, Antonini could be outrighted back to Triple A Albuquerque.

Removing Antonini likely means that the move to put Victorino on the active roster won't be a veteran getting designated for assignment, because if the Dodgers were going to remove a player from the 40-man they could have done in Tuesday instead of Antonini.

That likely means struggling veterans Bobby Abreu (.234/.333/.255 in July), Tony Gwynn Jr. (.140/.204/.160 in July), and Juan Uribe (.154/.281/.346 in July) are probably safe. In the case of Uribe, he is at least healthy, but had just one at-bat in his one appearance in the last eight games coming into Tuesday.

"(Uribe's) healthy. In a sense, with Hanley at third and Cruz playing well at short, there is nowhere to use him except maybe as a pinch hitter, or doubling him in late in the game," said manager Don Mattingly.

The move could be as simple as someone to the disabled list, or perhaps someone getting optioned.

Luis Cruz could be optioned, but that would mean Hanley Ramirez is ready to play shortstop full time and would leave the club without a true backup at the position.

Rookie reliever Shawn Tolleson is another option candidate, but he has been pitching well of late, and would leave the Dodgers with only six pitchers in the bullpen. Though that is more palatable with off days on each of the next two Thursdays.

Both Mattingly and general manager Ned Colletti declined to comment on a possible roster move, but one will need to be made by Wednesday. Now we wait and see.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will have a new leadoff man when new acquisition Shane Victorino arrives before Wednesday's series finale with the Arizona Diamondbacks. But that doesn't mean shortstop Dee Gordon is out of the team's plans.

There has been some talk since the club acquired Hanley Ramirez last week that the former Miami Marlins shortstop would return to his old position with the Dodgers. Though Ramirez has played exclusively third base in seven games as a Dodger, he has taken pregame grounders at shortstop for four days and manager Don Mattingly said once Ramirez moved to shortstop Mattingly would keep him there.

But Mattingly clarified on Tuesday that he meant he would keep Ramirez at shortstop only until Gordon returns from the disabled list. Gordon tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb on July 4 and is currently still in a cast. Mattingly said Gordon could miss up to a month, which would put him in line for a September return.

But when Gordon returns, Mattingly said, the club plans to continue to have Gordon play shortstop.

Gordon is hitting .229/.280/.282 on the season, and with Victorino on the team the Dodgers don't need to try and fit Gordon's speed into a position at which he does not fit, at leadoff.

The Los Angeles Dodgers ended up acquiring have finally dealt Brandon League after the rumors started surfacing a few days ago. League posted an ERA of 3.71, winning 17 games and losing 26 games, striking out 275 and walking 54 batters.

With the League trade, the Mariners will receive two prospects by the Dodgers deep in the farm system, getting outfielder Leon Landry and right handed pitcher Logan Bawcom. Landry was batting .328 when he was at Rancho Cucamonga at the Dodgers A+ affiliate, while Bawcom appearing in 27 games with the Chattanooga Lookouts, putting up a 2.60 ERA overall.

A pair of home runs allowed by Aaron Harang spelled doom for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night, as they dropped their series opener to the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 at Dodger Stadium. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Dodgers.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give Arizona a 3-0 lead just four batters into the game. Harang was playing with fire for most of the night, as he allowed eight runners to reach base in the first three innings. Three more reached base in the fifth inning, and Chris Johnson sent them all home with a grand slam for a 7-0 lead.

It was the ninth home run of the season for Johnson, and his first as a Diamondback, in his first game with Arizona. Johnson, who was acquired on Sunday from the Houston Astros, was activated before Monday's game, and first baseman Lyle Overbay was designated for assignment.

Harang was done after five innings after allowing a season worst seven runs, and suffered his sixth loss of the season (7-6).

Trevor Cahill (9-9) allowed one run in six innings for Arizona to pick up the win for Arizona.

In his first home game as a Dodger, Hanley Ramirez went 0-for-4, the first time in six games with his new team that he didn't collect a hit or score a run.

Chris Capuano takes the mound for the Dodgers in the second game of the series on Tuesday night, facing Wade Miley for the Diamondbacks in a battle of left-handers.
