It's starting to look like the pressure is off for Lane Kiffin at Heritage Hall. The USC Trojans are looking mighty again. The two-year sanctions that plagued the program in their recruiting efforts are gone. The team is a national championship contender with a Heisman Trophy favorite at quarterback. Despite the scholarship restrictions that are still in place, they have a good shot to finally prove that the Pac-12 can reign supreme over the rest of the country.

Dan Rubenstein of SB Nation caught up with Kiffin at Pac-12 Media Day last month, and the two of them discussed the pressures of coaching as the favorite at USC, where all the pressure will be foisted upon him. He also went further in-depth into some position battles and the quality of the opposition within the conference.

Indeed, the worst that Kiffin has had to worry about is a silly Coaches Poll kerfuffle. Kiffin briefly ruffled weathers when he said he would never vote USC No. 1 when he ended up actually doing so in his preseason ballot. This eventually led to Kiffin conceding his ballot for the remainder of the season.

Click here for more Pac-12 Media Day Interviews from SB Nation.

According to a repot by Pedro Moura of ESPN Los Angeles, USC defensive end Devon Kennard could miss the entire 2012 season after tearing his pectoral muscle.

Moura's unnamed source also relayed the injury happened during weight lifting and said that Kennard will undergo surgery next week. USC football blog, Reign of Troy reports that Kennard is currently awaiting word from the team's doctor of the severity of the injury.

Immediate reaction from USC fans and reporters reveals that Kennard's potential absence during the 2012 season would have a significant impact. The depth at the defensive line position is weak for the Trojans as is, and losing Kennard could be devastating.

Kennard, a rising senior, played in 11 of 12 games for USC in 2011, tallying 28 total tackles. Last season, USC coaches converted Kennard back to his original position of defensive end after playing eight games at linebacker during his sophomore year. The Arizona-native was slated to be the Trojans' starter at defensive end in 2012.

As the Penn State football sanctions continue to ripple through the school, a number of players are looking at transfering from the Nitany Lions, including standout running back Silas Redd, who now is looking into the USC Trojans.

Here is ESPN's Joe Schad with more:

Redd, Penn State's leading rusher last season, is considering the Trojans because of the perceived opportunity to compete for a championship. USC is pointing to a high number of recent freshman All-Americans as evidence Redd can pick up the system quickly.

Staying at Penn State and then entering the NFL draft after one year is still an option for Redd, and the most likely one if he chooses against joining USC, sources said.

USC notified Penn State on Monday that it indeed had interested in Redd, according to a source close to the situation. Head coach Lane Kiffen didn't specifically mention Redd at Pac-12 media day, but did have this to say about their depth in the backfield:

"Our No. 1 concern is our running back depth," Kiffin said. "We really have to do a good job there developing depth."

Redd, the 5-foot-10, 209-pound junior, ran for 1,241 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2012-13 campaign. He still has two years of eligibility remaining.

The Pac-12 has spoken: the days of the USC Trojans dominating the conference have returned.

During the Pac-12 media day on Tuesday, the preseason poll released by members of the media who cover the league was released with the Trojans as the overwhelming favorite to win the league championship, according to The Los Angeles Times' Baxter Holmes.

The Trojans received 117 out of 123 first-place votes to win the South Division, then secured 102 votes to Oregon's 18 to win the Pac-12 title game to be held on Nov. 30.

Utah, Arizona State and UCLA were the only other teams to earn first-place votes to win the South Division, even though the Sun Devils were picked to finish fifth overall out of six teams. Oregon secured 117 first-place votes to Stanford's five and Cal's one in the North Division.
