The Los Angeles Dodgers have set their starting rotation for after the All-Star Break to put the odds in their favor. The club will return to the diamond on Friday night against the Padres, and it'll be ace lefty Clayton Kershaw who takes the mound first. He will be followed on Saturday by Aaron Harang.

Chad Billingsley will pitch the series finale against San Diego. Despite his recent struggles on the mound, Billingsley is 12-8 in his career against the Padres with a very impressive 2.62 ERA in 26 games (22 starts). He faced them on April 6 and struck out 11 in 8.1 shutout innings, so it only makes sense to give him the start.

The next series will be against the struggling Phillies. Chris Capuano will make the start in the series opener on Monday, July 16. Nathan Eovaldi will pitch next, and then Kershaw will go once again in Wednesday's series finale.

Despite their struggles in recent weeks, the Dodgers are still 0.5 games up in the National League West.

The good news is that the Los Angeles Dodgers are heading into the All-Star break while still in sole possession of first place in the National League West. The bad news is that they're heading into the break with a three-game losing streak and only have a half-game lead on the San Francisco Giants. On Sunday, the Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks by a final score of 7-1. The D-backs claimed the last three games of a four-game series to move to within four games of first place.

The Dodgers were held to just two hits and a walk against Arizona starter Trevor Bauer through six innings and weren't able to scratch out their lone run until the top of the ninth inning. Los Angeles starter Chris Capuano, by contrast, gave up five runs in five innings on nine hits and a walk. Capuano was unable to pick up his 10th win and falls to 9-4.

The Diamondbacks struck first, as Justin Upton hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning and Paul Goldschmidt drove him in with a ground-rule double. Goldschmidt hit a three-run homer off Capuano in the fifth inning to make it 5-0 Diamondbacks. Miguel Montero hit a two-run single in the seventh to make it 7-0.

The Dodgers scored their lone run on a Juan Uribe sacrifice fly in the ninth. The Dodgers managed just five hits, two of which were from Juan Rivera. Doubles by Rivera and Capuano represented the only Dodgers extra-base hits of the game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers must have had a feeling of déjà vu on Saturday night, as the game pattern was eerily similar to Friday night's loss. Once again the Dodgers got out to a first inning lead, but the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied in the middle innings and captured their second straight 5-3 win over the Dodgers. Arizona has won two of the first three games of the four-game series.

Jerry Hairston Jr. homered in the first inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. That lead lasted until the fifth inning, when Chad Billingsley allowed three hits and a sacrifice fly for three runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Gerardo Parra.

Billingsley (4-9) allowed just six hits in his six innings and didn't walk a batter, but five of those six hits were doubles and he allowed four runs to take his fifth straight loss.

After allowing two runs in the first inning, Trevor Cahill (7-7) allowed just one more run the rest of the way, a solo home run by A.J. Ellis in the seventh inning. That brought the Dodgers to within 4-3, but Jason Kubel added an insurance run with a solo home run in the eighth inning, his 15th of the season.

Cahill allowed three runs in seven innings for the win.

Ellis went 3-for-4 on the night, and his home run gave the Dodgers six home runs in seven games in July, matching their total for all of June, in 28 games.

The Dodgers look to salvage a split on Sunday afternoon, with Chris Capuano facing off against Trevoe Bauer in the final game before the All-Star break.

Clayton Kershaw had a two-run lead in the sixth inning on Friday night, but a five-run rally turned the tied, as the Los Angeles Dodgers lost 5-3 to the Arizona Diamondbacks to snap their three-game winning streak.

Justin Upton hit a two-run triple to give Arizona their first lead of the night, one of four consecutive hits off Kershaw in the definitive sixth frame. Up to that point, Kershaw (6-5) had allowed just one hit and one walk in five innings, with six strikeouts.

The Dodgers scored a pair of runs off Arizona starter Josh Collmenter (1-2), including Adam Kennedy's first home run of the season, but that was all. They put at least two runners on base in each of the final three innings but could only add one run.

J.J. Putz allowed two hits in the ninth inning but retired the side for his 15th save of the season.

Chad BIllingsley starts for the Dodgers on Saturday, facing Trevor Cahill for Arizona.

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar outfielder Matt Kemp continued his minor league rehab assignment on Friday night by starting in center field for the Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. But Friday will be Kemp's final game with Rancho Cucamonga, as he will take his show on the road to Albuquerque this weekend.

Kemp, who has been on the disabled list since May 31 with a strained left hamstring, will continue his rehab with Triple A Albuquerque on Saturday and Sunday, per Dodger Talk co-host David Vassegh of KLAC AM 570.

After serving as the designated hitter on Tuesday night for Rancho Cucamonga, Kemp has started the last three games in center field. He played five innings in the field on Wednesday and seven innings on Thursday.

Kemp is expected to participate in Home Run Derby on Monday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, but he will not play in the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday. Kemp is also scheduled to be activated by the Dodgers for their game on Friday, July 13 against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to get their pair of two-time All-Star outfielders back on July 13, as Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier are both expected to return from the disabled list for the Dodgers' first game after the break. Kemp is currently playing in a minor league rehab assignment, and Ethier will do the same next week.

Ethier, who is on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, will play in two minor league rehab games with Class A Rancho Cucmonga next Wednesday and Thursday, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. This was a change in thinking from earlier in the week, as manager Don Mattingly said on Wednesday that Ethier likely wouldn't need to play in a rehab game before returning to the Dodgers.

Ethier suffered the oblique injury on June 27 in San Francisco on a check swing against Tim Lincecum of the Giants. He missed six games before getting placed on the disabled list on Wednesday, retroactive to June 28. Ethier was able to return to taking batting practice with the team on Wednesday.

This season, Ethier is hitting .291/.357/.491 with 23 doubles, 10 home runs and 55 RBI in 75 games. He and Kemp have combined to hit 22 of the Dodgers' 48 home runs this season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to extend a pair of streaks tonight as they battle the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second game of a four-game series at Chase Field in Phoenix. The Dodgers have won three straight games, and four of their last five, while the Diamondbacks have lost six straight contests.

It will be interesting to see how the Dodgers handle their leadoff position with shortstop Dee Gordon out for six weeks after thumb surgery. Gordon has a .280 on-base percentage so his production won't be that difficult to replicate, though he was effective on the bases. Tony Gwynn Jr. starts at leadoff for the Dodgers on Friday, but with Matt Kemp coming back one week from today the top of the lineup will be an interesting game of mix-and-match for manager Don Mattingly.
