The LA Galaxy are fighting for playoff position but took a hit with a loss to Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

The LA Galaxy fell to Real Salt Lake, 2-1, on Saturday night in Carson, Calif.

Real Salt Lake's Fabian Espindola scored both goals for Real Salt Lake just minutes apart as the race for playoff positioning continues.

Real Salt Lake is getting closer to securing the second seed in the Western Conference as they try to hold off LA and Seattle for the playoff spot. The Galaxy are now only one point ahead of the Sounders for the third seed.

Aside from the loss, the Galaxy received more bad news as one of their leaders, Landon Donovan, was taken off the field with an injury with 10 minutes to go. There is no official word on how serious Donovan's injury is. Donovan joins center back A.J. DeLaGarza and left back Todd Dunivant as injured team members.

The only positive the Galaxy got from the game was their lone goal was scored by Robbie Keane, giving him 15 goals on the season.

CARSON, Calif -- The LA Galaxy were able to secure their first win at home in over two months, defeating the Portland Timbers 1-0. The win was also the Galaxy's first clean sheet of the year, the first in MLS play since MLS Cup 2011. The last match the Galaxy won at home was April 14, 2012 against the Timbers. The Galaxy had 20, 611 fans come out on a Sunday afternoon to see them claim their first three points since April.

The Galaxy got their goal in the 62', with David Beckham taking a corner kick in front of the Portland Timber's away supporters. The Timbers fans gave Beckham guff, but he was able to send a fine corner to the far post. Perkins didn't come out, and Todd Dunivant was able to nod in a bouncer past him. The goal was Dunivant's first since May 8th, 2010 in Seattle.

The best first half chance for LA came in the 15'. Landon Donovan ended up with the ball on about the eighteen yard line and let a rocket loose. It was low enough, but it clanked off the woodwork and back out into play. Donovan started up top at forward with Edson Buddle and Robbie Keane out, but had tough luck on the chances he took. Chad Barrett stood up top as the target forward, and looked pretty awful to boot.

While David Beckham was his usual self and picked up the assist, the standout in the midfield for the Galaxy was Marcelo Sarvas. The Brazilian showed great ball control ability, and was a spark that the Galaxy desperately needed in the creative third. The Galaxy defense was mostly the usual suspects, with David Junior Lopes not costing the Galaxy a goal but also not playing above his ability.

Josh Saunders made his first start back since completing his Behavioral Management program. He looked up to the task, making a great save on a low Kris Boyd shot that tried to sneak into the near corner. He also took a ball to the face, and was down for a minute.

Another positive note for the Galaxy was the first home MLS appearance for Jack McBean. The seventeen year old made an appearance in the Galaxy's last regular season match last season, scoring a goal in junk time. The kid has looked good in reserve matches, as the Galaxy look to develop talent for the future.

The LA Galaxy face the Portland Timbers at The Home Depot Center, trying to find three points and right their 2012 campaign.

Tonight, LA Galaxy will try and turn their season around, facing Portland Timbers at The Home Depot Center. They'll have to make a starting lineup with a third of their roster unavailable. Still, no excuses as the Galaxy are in danger of being just the third all time MLS team to miss the playoffs after winning the Cup in the season prior.

They'd join the 2005-06 Galaxy and the 1999-00 DC United as teams which failed to make the playoffs after winning MLS Cup. The 2006 Galaxy finished fifth place in the Western Conference with an 11-15-6 record, 5 points out of a playoff spot. LA are currently last in the Western Conference, eight points out of a playoff spot. With fifth place Colorado losing last night, the Galaxy could narrow the gap to five points with a win tonight. They'd also leapfrog Portland and Dallas in the standings.

Which makes this as close as you can come to a must win match as can happen in June. The month of June was fairly rough on the Timbers last season, as they wen't 0-3-1 and were outscored 9-3. The Galaxy will have to try and scrape together a team with six players out with injury, three players suspended, and one player on international duty. Robbie Keane is MLS' only representative in UEFA Euro 2012, though the Irish were the first team eliminated from the Euros; their first major since the 2002 World Cup.

"It's hectic," said defender Todd Dunivant. "We've all dealt with it before, and it's even more of a challenge now because we need points. It doesn't matter who we put out there; we have to get points. It's kind of the mentality we're working with right now. It's important because we can't keep pushing things under the rug. It's now or never."

The Galaxy will benefit from the return of goalkeeper Josh Saunders having completed his Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health program. The program requires a six match break, making this the first match he's been eligible for since taking time off to clear his head. Saunders appeared in a warm up reserve match against the Portland Timbers last week.

With Keane heading Ireland's call, the Galaxy facing a major galactic disturbance, and the Timbers trying to avoid another joyless June there's plenty to play for tonight. This is the second meeting at the Home Depot Center this year for the two clubs. On April 14th, Landon Donovan, David Beckham, and Juninho all scored in response to an early Kris Boyd goal to take three points.
