CARSON, Calif -- Chivas USA defeated the LA Galaxy for the first time since August 23, 2007, with the first score 1-0, at the Home Depot Center Saturday night. The Goat victory snapped a six match winning streak for the Galaxy, and an 11 match unbeaten streak. It took a penalty kick from Jose Corea in the 72' to finally break the match open. 18,800 fans showed up at the Home Depot Center, a sellout by Chivas USA's tarped up standards.

"I was pleased with the way we started the game," said Chivas USA coach Robin Fraser. "We were able to make ourselves pretty dangerous pretty early....the mindset was very aggressive from the beginning. As the game worn on when things didn't go our way we didn't crumble...a very satisfying win for the team in a number of ways."

The match finally came alive in the 70' when David Junior Lopes was shown a red card. Brian Perk punched a cross into the box, but the ball bounced came right after. This shot was saved by Lopes, who isn't the goalkeeper. Lopes was shown a red card for his volleyball dig of a save, and Perk now had to stop Jose Correa's penalty attempt.

He failed to save the penalty the first time, but Chivas came off the line too early, so the penalty had to be taken again. Correa was once again successful with a shot to the bottom right corner, putting the Galaxy down 1-0. This was just the second goal scored at home on the season for Chivas in six matches, and both of them have been penalties.

"We had a couple of good goalscoring opportunities," said Galaxy manager Bruce Arena, "but we weren't able to convert them...you have to take your chance. That game was pretty much a wash up until the penalty kick, which was warranted."

For the Galaxy, the problem was that the offense didn't figure out a way to get onto the goal until too late in the match. In the first half, the only attempt to try Adam Kennedy was a throwaway shot from Landon Donovan about 30 yards out on a non-developing play.

For Chivas, they got great play from new addition Danny Califf. This, combined with some superb goalkeeping on the part of Dan Kennedy kept the Galaxy out of sorts for most of the match. Not having David Beckham or Robbie Keane out there for most of the match didn't help things either.

Over the past three years, Chivas had only scored one goal against the Galaxy, and one goal was all that they needed tonight.

Chivas USA were quite active in the MLS trade market today, trading Heath Pearce and allocation money to the New York Red Bulls for Juan Agudelo. RBNY will receive a significant amount of allocation money, a portion of the Agudelo sell-on fee, and Chivas will still be paying part of Pearce's salary. Chivas also completed a deal sending Mike Lahoud and allocation money to the Philadelphia Union for Danny Califf. All of these deals were first confirmed by Ives Galarcep and Fox Soccer, official confirmation has not yet come down from the league.

Heath Pearce, who has 35 appearances with the US Men's National team since 2005, was acquired by Chivas in the 2010 offseason from FC Dallas for allocation money. Since 2011 he's made 40 appearances for the Goats, a significant part of their solid back line.

Juan Agudelo is also a member of the US Men's National Team, featuring heavily since Jurgen Klinsmann took over the squad. He's made 33 appearances and scored six goals with the Red Bulls, his only club thus far in his career. With the Red Bulls since March 2010, he's had trouble getting significant minutes with the club.

Michael Lahoud has been with Chivas since 2009, making 64 appearances and scoring two goals. The midfielder finished last season with one goal and three assists. Danny Califf is a defender and was captain of the Philadelphia Union.

For Chivas they send out a defender and a midfielder, and get back a defender and a forward. If Juan Agudelo can blossom into the everyday player many believe he can be, this trading session will be a significant upgrade for Chivas. Agudelo will be joining former Red Bulls teammate Juan Pablo Angel at Chivas.

The Galaxy have won six of the last seven meetings between these two clubs.

The LA Galaxy and Chivas USA are slated to kick off the first edition of the Honda Superclasico at the Home Depot Center in Carson this Saturday, in a match broadcast nationally on ESPN2. The Galaxy currently are one point ahead of Chivas in the table, with both clubs in the bottom third. It's a chance for one team to change their recent form, or for both clubs to continue their cellar dwelling existence.

It's the first meeting of the year between Chivas and the Galaxy in the SuperClasico, and the first time since 2009 that the two clubs will meet three times during the year. The past two seasons, MLS has tried a balanced double round robin schedule, but returned to an unbalanced schedule this year. Chivas will play host twice, while the Galaxy host once.

LA currently dominates the rivalry, winning six of the last seven meetings and owning a 16-6-3 record in all competitions. Chad Barrett is especially glad to see the Goats on the schedule, having scored a goal three of the last four times he's faced Chivas; including the game winner in both SuperClasico match ups last year.

David Beckham has been getting all the attention lately, after scoring his fourth direct kick goal in his MLS career (out of 12 total goals) in a strike against Montreal. Then when meeting the President of the United States on Tuesday, Beckham was singled out for jokes about his age and his underwear line.

Just four days after being congratulated by the President on their 2011 MLS Cup victory, the Galaxy will have to try and pick up their season against their intracity rival. The all time regular season record heavily favors the Galaxy (14-3-5), but LA has been slumping to begin this year already equaling their loss total from last year.
