The LA Galaxy joined the Colorado Rapids with nine points on the season after defeating the Rapids on Saturday. This also pulled them even with stadium-mates Chivas USA, who did not grab any points on Saturday losing at home to Philadelphia. The Galaxy are on top of that group on goal differential.

For the second week in a row, LA's opponent this weekend is within passing distance in the standings. FC Dallas come to The Home Depot Center Saturday to take on LA sitting one spot ahead with ten points. Dallas are 0-3-0 on the road this season, and have to play RSL on Wednesday.

Chivas on the other hand get to go on the road, where they are undefeated this season. Their opponents are the Colorado Rapids who just lost at home to the Galaxy last week.

The leaders in the Western Conference are San Jose with16 points and Real Salt Lake with 15. RSL has to travel to FC Dallas midweek, then hosts Toronto on Saturday. San Jose travels to Philadelphia to take on the Union.

Chivas USA continue to struggle at home, once again managing no goals and gaining no points in the standings; this time with the Philadelphia Union walking away with a 0-1 victory. The goal was scored by Freddy Adu, who had a ball fall into his lap and backheeled it in to score the winning goal. The game was quite chippy, with yellow cards flying as both teams appeared frustrated with their current run of play.

The Freddy Adu came much like the other goals Chivas have given up at home this season, largely due to bad luck for the Goats. Michael Farfan sent in a nice looking low ball across the mouth of goal, surprising the Chivas back line. As a result, it bounced around in front of goal where Freddy Adu was able to use his back heel to put Philadelphia up 0-1.

The testy nature of the match heated up starting in the 75' when Keon Daniel was given a straight red for a studs up challenge, and boiled over in the 85' when Gabriel Farfan received a straight red for a two footed challenge. Peter Nowak was livid, going onto the pitch and getting sent off as well in the process.

There was some handbagging amongst the players, Dan Kennedy looked especially hot, but it was cleared up relatively quickly. Playing with nine men and no head coach, Philadelphia was still able to hold on for the final five minutes plus five minutes of stoppage time.

Not that Chivas didn't have chances. In the first half, outside the goal, all the Union had by way of shots was an Adu deflection and a Bian Carroll field goal. Chivas on the other hand forced two saves and took seven chances on goal. In the second half, the red-and-whites again had the lions share of the chances but they just didn't make any of them attractive at the finish. Especially once Philly went down to nine men, all the Union could do is sit and clear long ball after long ball in the box. Still the Goats couldn't punch one through.

Chivas go back on the road, to Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado, for their next match giving Chivas fans another chance to see road Chivas. Unfortuntely for Chivas fans right now, the road version of this team just looks exponentially better than the home edition.

Last week Chivas claimed their third road victory, over the Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field, to give them nine points on the year despite not eating one point at home.
Chivas USA (3-3-0) return to The Home Depot Center this week, but having earned all nine points on the road, this may not be a cause for celebration and relaxation.

Chivas USA (3-3-0) return to The Home Depot Center this week, but having earned all nine points on the road, this may not be a cause for celebration and relaxation. This week's opponent on Saturday night at 7:30 PDT is the Philadelphia Union (1-3-1), who have lost both their road matches this year. It's the battle of the moveable object, and the stoppable force.

Still it's Chivas who are in good form, with two straight road victories. They return to The Home Depot Center after winning for the third time in three matches away from home in a 1-0 triumph over Toronto FC. The problem, of course, is that the Goats are 0-3-0 at home this year.

Philly may not be in great form, but with their first victory of the year last week they are at least recovering. The Union began the year with a four game winless streak (six if it's stretched back to last season), but finally managed a 1-0 victory over Columbus on national TV.

For both clubs, the calling card is their defense. The Union last week were able to extend their shutout streak to 244 minutes despite the absence of Danny Califf for a third match this season. He was scratched after warmups against Columbus, which likely makes him available for the match against Chivas.

Chivas managed to branch out and score two goals against the Portland Timbers two weeks ago, but fans shouldn't expect too many goals in this one. Every other Chivas match this year has finished 1-0.

The Goats do not have a victory over Philadelphia. Philadelphia has won both encounters at PPL Park, including a 3-2 victory last season. The two clubs have a pair of 1-1 draws at The Home Depot Center. This is Philly's third MLS season.
