The Los Angeles Dodgers' Matt Kemp was named the NL Player of the Week, the first of the weekly awards given out this season.

Kemp led the Dodgers to a 3-1 start as the Dodgers began their season with a four-game series in San Diego against the Padres. Kemp batted 7-for-17 (.412) with two home runs, a double and eight RBIs.

"I'm feeling good right now," said Kemp on Sunday. "Hopefully I can continue to hit the ball like I have these last four days, and we'll see what happens."

Teammate Andre Ethier also had a great series, driving in eight runs of his own. Manager Don Mattingly commented on the play of both guys on Sunday.

"Those guys going good is something we want, obviously," Mattingly said. "We talked about having that combination of guys, two guys we can build around."

Aaron Harang was roughed up for four runs in his first start of the season on Sunday as the Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to complete their sweep of the San Diego Padres, who won 8-4 at Petco Park. Clayton Richard allowed just two hits and two unearned runs in seven innings to earn the victory for San Diego.

Harang was removed with one out in the fifth inning after allowing four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits and five walks. He did strike out six batters on the day, and allowed a home run to Andy Parrino, the first of Parrino's big league career.

Matt Kemp hit a two-run home run, his second of the season, to center field in the top of the sixth inning, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. The home run, which was just the second hit off Richard, cut the Dodgers' deficit in half, to 4-2.

Chas Headley put an end to any Dodgers comeback thoughts with a 413-foot grand slam in the eighth inning off Scott Elbert.

Andre Ethier hit a two-run home run of his own for the Dodgers in the ninth inning, his first of the year.

The Dodgers are off Monday before beginning a six-game homestand, starting Tuesday afternoon with their home opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Los Angeles Dodgers go for their first four-game road sweep sweep for the San Diego Padres in 11 years on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park. Aaron Harang gets the start for the Padres, opposed by Clayton Richard for San Diego.

Catcher A.J. Ellis, who has reached base in seven of his 13 plate appearances, gets Sunday off after three starts, with Matt Treanor in today's lineup for the Dodgers. Justin Sellers, who made his first opening day roster, gets the start at second base, with Mark Ellis getting a day of rest. Here are the starting lineups:

Dodgers (3-0)

Gordon SS
Sellers 2B
Kemp CF
Rivera LF
Ethier RF
Uribe 3B
Loney 1B
Treanor C
Harang P

Padres (0-3)

The Padres' pitching staff took a hit, as Saturday's starter Dustin Moseley was placed on the disabled list with a shoulder strain.
Dee Gordon had three hits, two walks, three stolen bases, and drove in the winning run as the Dodgers pulled out a 6-5 win over the Padres Saturday night at Petco Park in San Diego. Gordon's single to right field scored A.J. Ellis in the top of the 11th to provide the winning run.

In the first inning, Gordon singled to center then stole second base. He advanced to third base on a ground ball to second base by Mark Ellis, then scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Matt Kemp.

In the third inning Gordon drew a two-out walk, then stole second base again. He was distracting enough to induce a pair of pickoff attempts at second base from pitcher Dustin Moseley, and Ellis followed with a walk. Kemp singled to center to drive in Gordon and extend his own hitting streak to 15 game,s, the second longest of his career. Andre Ethier followed with a two-run double to give the Dodgers a 4-0 lead.

A.J. Ellis followed in the fourth inning with a home run to left field, the third of his career, to give the Dodgers a 5-0 lead.

Chris Capuano was pitching fine into the fifth inning when all of a sudden he lost his command. He walked three batters, the last forcing in a run to make it 5-1 with two outs. Capuano was removed with the bases loaded, no longer eligible for the win, and Jamey Wright and Scott Elbert allowed four inherited runs to score to tie the game at five. But the rest of the Dodgers bullpen pitched six scoreless innings to bide time for Gordon's heroics.

"After that fifth inning our bullpen was lights out," manager Don Mattingly said.

Aaron Harang, who was 14-7 with a 3.64 ERA with San Diego last season, pitches for the Dodgers on Sunday as they go for the four-game sweep. Clayton Richard will start for the Padres.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is giving both Juan Rivera and Juan Uribe a scheduled day off on Saturday night, both right-handed batters facing the righty Moseley. Clayton Richard, a left-hander, starts for San Diego on Sunday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers look for their third straight victory to open the season on Saturday night as they battle the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Chris Capuano takes the hill for the Dodgers, making his first start for Los Angeles after signing a two-year, $10 million contract during the offseason.

Dustin Moseley starts for the Padres.

The Dodgers captured the opener of the series 5-3 on Thursday night, and rode the hot bat of Andre Ethier and the superb pitching of Chad Billingsley to a 6-0 win on Friday night. Through two games, neither Dodgers starting pitcher has allowed a run, so Capuano has a high standard to follow.

"We talked about our starting pitching setting the tone, and Bills obviously right out of the gate was really good," manager Don Mattingly said on Friday.

Matt Kemp has two hits in each of the first two games of the season, and has a 14-game hitting streak, dating back to last season. Juan Rivera also has two hits in each of the first two games.

The Dodgers have won 12 of their last 14 games against the Padres.

The Los Angeles Dodgers got huge games from Chad Billingsley and Andre Ethier Friday night and were able to dispatch the San Diego Padres 6-0 at Petco Park for their second straight win to open the season. Billingsley struck out 11 Padres in his 8 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

"I was just getting ahead with my fastball and was able to mix in all my offspeed pitches," Billingsley said. "It was one of those days when everything felt good, good tempo, good rhythm out there."

Ethier drove in four runs, with a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run triple in the fifth inning. Both hits were off left-hander Cory Luebke, who suffered the loss for San Diego.

"We talked about our starting pitching setting the tone, and Bills obviously right out of the gate was really good. Andre gets us going with two in the first off the lefty. Both of those guys really set the tone for us," manager Don Mattingly said after the game.

The Dodgers go for their third straight win on Saturday, with Chris Capuano facing Dustin Moseley.

Billingsley made his major league debut at Petco Park on June 15, 2006, and in 11 career starts in San Diego is 4-4 with a 2.65 ERA. But he has lost his last two starts at Petco Park, thanks in part to the Dodgers scoring zero runs in those games.

Luebke ssigned a three-year, $12 million contract extension this offseason with two option years that could cover one season of free agency.
