In what was perhaps the easiest-to-predict sports story of 2012, a broken nose and concussion did practically nothing to slow Kobe Bryant down. The Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Sacramento Kings on Friday night and came away with the 115-107 win, improving to 16-2 at home. The Lakers have now won seven of their last 10 games.

The Lakers jumped out to a five-point lead by the end of the first quarter. They led 65-58 at halftime and only a big fourth quarter by the Kings managed to make the final score as close as it was. The Kings outscored the Lakers 33-23 in the final quarter but it was a classic case of too little, too late.

Kobe Bryant led all scorers in the game with 38 points, also picking up eight rebounds, three assists and a steal. Andrew Bynum added a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Metta World Peace and Pau Gasol each put up 15 points for Los Angeles. On the Kings side, only Francisco Garcia had 18 points and Marcus Thornton added 15. DeMarcus Cousins managed a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Los Angeles Lakers look for their seventh straight home win on Friday night as they host the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center in the second game of a three-game homestand. The Lakers also are looking for some revenge against a Kings squad that beat the Lakers 100-91 on December 26 in the second game of the season.

Kobe Bryant was free of symptoms of his concussion and cleared to play Wednesday night against Minnesota, and he did so with a mask on to protect his broken nose. The masked man went off for 31 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists in the 104-85 win, and continues to lead the league in scoring at 28.5 points per game.

Wednesday was the 43rd game in Bryant's storied career that he had at least 30 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, and his first since March 22, 2011 against Phoenix.

The Kings are playing their second straight night, having lost at home 108-100 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night. This is the third game for Sacramento in their last four nights. Sacramento is just 4-17 on the road this season.

Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers have struggled at times this season, but they have absolutely excelled at home. At 15-2, the Lakers are tied for the second best home record in the NBA this season, and continue their brief three-game homestand with a pair of games this weekend. Sacramento comes to town Friday night, but the marquee matchup is Sunday afternoon when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat invade Staples Center. Here is the Lakers weekend schedule:

Friday - Sacramento Kings (12-23) at Lakers (7:30 p.m., Prime Ticket): The Lakers look for some payback for their 100-91 loss in Sacramento on December 26 in the second game of the season.

Sunday - Miami Heat (28-7) at Lakers (12:30 p.m., ABC): One week after delivering a hard foul in the All-Star game that broke Bryant's nose and gave him a concussion, Wade comes to Los Angeles to apologize to Kobe in person. Expect things to get physical, especially if Matt Barnes has a say. Miami beat the Lakers handily in Miami, 98-87 on January 19.

This comes a day after Bryant almost put up a triple-double against the Minnesota Timberwolves while dealing with neck pain and wearing a plastic mask to protect his nose.

Coach Mike Brown told reporters that he didn't talk with Bryant about his condition but no one expects him to miss Friday's game against the Sacramento Kings.

"I don't know if there's going to be anything that he does now that surprises me," Brown said. "In a way it's good and in a way it's sad. It's sad because he had a terrific performance last night especially with everything that happened. ... You try not to take it for granted because he's special with what he does out on the floor. In the same breath, he is Kobe. I'm kind of contradicting myself."

Bryant received clearance to play against Minnesota after his fourth visit to neurologist Vern Williams, an hour before the game. He put on bandages on his lower neck after the game.
