The California Bears this week did something they hadn't done for 53 seasons, and as a result will end the week in first place in the Pac-12 Conference. Cal (20-6, 10-3) vaulted into the top spot in the conference college basketball standings thanks to coming into Los Angeles and sweeping the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins.

The Bears completed a season sweep of both the Bruins and Trojans, winning all four games against both schools for the first time since th 1958-1959 season.
The California Bears used a 14-2 second half run to break open a close game, beating the UCLA Bruins 73-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. The loss snapped a 10-game home winning streak by the Bruins, who were swept by Cal for the first time since the 1993-1994 season.

The Bruins were within four points of Cal with 17:26 remaining but Cal went on a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to widen their lead, and led by as many as 17 points in the second half. Justin Cobbs scored 18 points and had five assists to lead Cal in the win. Jorge Gutierrez added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Jorge Gutierrez scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and had five rebounds in the first half, leading the California Golden Bears to a 32-26 halftime lead over the UCLA Bruins on Saturday afternoon at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. The Bruins are in search of their 11th consecutive home victory.

UCLA held an early 13-8 lead over Cal but the Bruins were ice cold in the opening half. The Bruins shot just 34.5% (10 for 29) from the field in the first half, compared to 56% (14 for 25) for Cal. UCLA missed its first six three-point attempts before Jerime Anderson hit a shot from beyond the arc at the halftime buzzer.

Lazeric Jones led the Bruins in scoring with eight points, but like every other Bruin had zero assists in the first half. Joshua Smith added five points and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench, and had an outstanding screen to free up Anderson for the three-pointer at the buzzer.

The UCLA Bruins look for a weekend sweep at home on Saturday afternoon as they host the tied-for-first-place California Golden Bears. Here are the relevant details of this Pac-12 Conference college basketball battle.

Records: UCLA (14-10, 7-5 in Pac-12); California (19-6, 9-3)

Location: Los Angeles Sports Arena

Time: 1 p.m. PST

TV: Prime Ticket, with Steve Physioc on play-by-play, Marques Johnson as color analyst, and Rebecca Haarlow reporting from the sideline.

Streaking: UCLA, playing without a true home this season as Pauley Pavilion gets renovated, started their season with three losses in their first four home games. But they have turned things around and have won 10 straight home games.

Series History: The Bruins lead the all-time series with Cal 132-99, and have won six of their last 10 meetings. Cal beat UCLA 85-69 at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley on December 31.

Back In Contention: If the Bruins win at home on Saturday, and Washington loses at Oregon State on Sunday, don't look now but UCLA would only be one game out of first place in the Pac-12.

Milestones: With a win on Saturday against the Bruins, Cal would capture their first four-game season sweep of UCLA and USC since the 1958-1959 season. In addition, it would give Cal 20 wins on the season for the third time in four seasons under head coach Mike Montgomery.
