<p>The <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.jewelsfromthecrown.com/">Los Angeles Kings</a> fell to the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.matchsticksandgasoline.com/">Calgary Flames</a> 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday night at Staples Center. <span>Jack Johnson</span> appeared to have scored on the second round of the shooutout, but upon replay it was determined that he scored off his own rebound, so the shootout goal was disallowed, giving Calgary a 2-1 advantage. <span>Mike Richards</span> was stopped as the third shooter, ending the game.</p>
<p>The Kings had a power play for the last 34 seconds of overtime thanks to a hooking call on <span>Mark Giordano</span> of the Flames. The Kings got three shots off in those final 34 seconds, but none found the net, which led to the shootout.</p>
<p><span>Jonathan Quick</span> saved 24 of 25 shots for the Kings in defeat. <span>Miikka Kiprusoff</span> saved 31 of 32 shots for the Flames. The Kings still have only lost once in regulation under Darryl Sutter, and are 8-1-6 under their new head coach.</p>
<p><span>Dustin Brown</span> opened the scoring for the Kings at 3:28 of the first period, his 13th goal of the season, assisted by <span>Justin Williams</span> and <span>Willie Mitchell</span>. <span>Jarome Iginla</span> scored his 18th goal of the season at 9:15 of the second period to tie the game for Calgary. The Kings continue their homestand Saturday night against the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.milehighhockey.com/">Colorado Avalanche</a> at Staples Center.</p>

<p>The Kings are 8-1-5 under head coach Darryl Sutter.</p> <p>The <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.jewelsfromthecrown.com/">Los Angeles Kings</a> look to extend their point streak to six games on Thursday night as they open a four-game homestand against the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.matchsticksandgasoline.com/">Calgary Flames</a> at Staples Center. This is the second meeting between the two clubs in six days, as the Kings came away with a 4-1 victory on January 14 in head coach Darryl Sutter's return to Calgary.</p>
<p>Under Sutter, the Kings have lost in regulation only once in 14 games, sporting an 8-1-5 record under their new head man. The Kings open play Thursday two points behind the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.fearthefin.com/">San Jose Sharks</a> for first place in the Pacific Division. The Kings are currently in the seventh spot in the NHL Western Conference.</p>
<p>The Flames have lost six straight road games and 11 of their last 13 away from Calgary, with a 2-7-4 road record during that span. Saturday's matchup in Calgary was the first-ever coaching matchup between brothers Darryl and Brent Sutter.</p>
