The USC Trojans emerged with a dominant 40-17 victory over the Washington Huskies on Saturday, sprinting out to a 23-3 halftime lead that the Trojans would not forfeit. Trojans freshman receiver Marqise Lee, who played a big part in securing USC's victory, has been recognized as the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Huskies.

Lee accounted for two touchdowns in the game, catching a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Barkley in the second quarter and running back an 88-yard punt return for a score on the opening kickoff of the second half. Lee also led USC receivers with 74 yards on nine catches.

The award marks Lee's first time winning a conference weekly honor. He joins teammates Barkley and Robert Woods as the only USC recipients to have done so this season.

Looking ahead, Lee will be called on to play another big game this week when the Trojans take on the surging Oregon Ducks. The Ducks handled the Stanford Cardinal 53-30 on the road last week, and USC will need big plays from receivers Lee and Woods if they hope to upset the Ducks.

USC has reason to root for Oregon.

The Trojans travel to Eugene next weekend to battle the Ducks, looking to avenge two consecutive losses to Oregon by a total margin of 48 points in the last two years.
The USC Trojans won their eighth game of the season on Saturday afternoon, and did so in a different fashion than they had all year in their 40-17 win over the Washington Huskies. The defense was stellar with a season-high seven sacks and the Trojans ran for a season-high 252 yards, allowing quarterback Matt Barkley and wide receiver Robert Woods to take a back seat.

Barkley completed 18 of 28 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown, a pedestrian game for him, but it gave him 29 touchdowns on the season, tied for fifth-most in school history for a single season.

The No. 18 USC Trojans played perhaps their finest game of the season, dominating the Washington Huskies 40-17 in front of 64,756 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It was the eighth win of the season for the Trojans, who have won two straight and outscored their last two opponents 82-34.

USC snapped a two-game losing streak to former assistant coach Steve Sarkisian, now the head coach of the Huskies. Erik Folk kicked game-winning field goals in each of their last two meetings as time expired, but on Saturday he was not needed.

The Trojans' defense was the story, as they limited Washington to 13 first downs and 244 total yards. USC had seven sacks on the day, including three by defensive end Nick Petty, who has a team-high eight sacks on the season. Washington quarterback Keith Price completed 12 of 16 passes for 125 yards, but took a beating as he was sacked four times, and left the game after injuring his left knee in the third quarter.

Tailback Curtis McNeal ran for a career-high 148 yards on just 18 carries for USC, the fifth straight game he has led the team in carries. He had a 79-yard breakaway run with 13:36 remaining in the third quarter to give the Trojans a 37-3 lead. McNeal has run for a team-high 639 yards this season, including 658 yards on 96 carries, an average of 6.85 yards per rush, over the last six games.

USC as a team rushed for a season-high 252 yards on 40 carries against Washington.

Freshman wide receiver Marqise Lee continued his outstanding debut campaign with nine catches for 74 yards and one receiving touchdown. He also took the opening kickoff of the second half 88 yards for a touchdown to give the Trojans a 30-3 lead just seconds into the third quarter. In his last three games, Lee has caught 25 passes for 292 yards and four touchdowns.

Left tackle Matt Kalil came out of the game in the third quarter with an apparent injury to his chest or shoulder area, but came back after receiving treatment on the sideline. Safety T.J. McDonald emerged from the locker room in sweats for the second half, missing the remainder of the game.

The Trojans have just two games remaining on their schedule. Next Saturday they travel to Eugene for a road battle against the Oregon Ducks, then close out their season on November 26 with a night game against the UCLA Bruins.

One year ago, the USC Trojans allowed 536 yards to the Washington Huskies in a 32-31 home loss. This year, the USC defense looks determined to not let that happen again, leading the Trojans to a 23-3 halftime lead at the Memorial Coliseum.

USC held Washington to just 91 yards on 25 plays in the first half, holding them to just five first downs while picking up four sacks, two by Nick Perry. USC even picked up a safety after a botched snap into the end zone, the first safety for the Trojans since their 2006 contest against UCLA.

Up 7-3 on a fourth-and-nine play from their own 45-yard line, the Trojans executed a perfect fake punt to catch the Huskies off guard. Punter Kyle Negrete put his head down and ran up the middle for a 35-yard gain and a first down to the 20-yard line. Five plays later, tailback Marc Tyler scored from one yard out for his third rushing touchdown of the season.

Tyler had 31 yards on four carries in the first half. Curtis McNeal ran for 66 yards on 13 carries in an efficient offensive first half for the Trojans. Matt Barkley completed 10 of 16 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown in the opening 30 minutes.

USC will receive the ball to open the third quarter.

The USC Trojans rode a strong defense and a couple big plays on offense to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter over the Washington Huskies at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Trojans defense was dominant in the opening quarter, as the Huskies failed to get a first down on any of their first three drives.

USC held Washington to 59 yards on 13 plays in the first quarter, though 48 of those yards came on the fourth drive of the game for Washignton. The Trojans picked up a pair of sacks, one each by Nick Perry and Lamar Dawson. Perry leads the team with six sacks on the season.

Matt Barkley scored from one yard out on a quarterback sneak with 5:40 remaining in the first quarter to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead. It capped a six-play, 70-yard drive which was highlighted by a pair of big plays. Barkley hit junior wide receiver Brice Butler with a lofted pass down the left sideline for a 36-yard gain, and three plays later Marc Tyler ran for 24 yards down to the one-yard line to set up the score.

Tyler has missed nearly two full games with problems stemming from a dislocated shoulder against Notre Dame, and had just one carry for three yards in the last two games. He left the game against the Stanford Cardinal after just one play and his 24-yard scamper was his first carry since then.

Saturday's matchup between the USC Trojans and Washington Huskies may not be as big of a draw as Oregon and Stanford will bring, but it's a crucial game in the Pac-12 race. While the Trojans are ineligible for postseason play, the team still wants to finish towards the top of the conference to reestablish themselves across the nation.

For the Huskies, the team has yet to record a signature victory for their resumé and they can achieve that with a win this afternoon. Chris Polk is in the running for conference player of the year and he will look to have a monster game against an iffy USC front-seven.
