As soon as the news broke that Richard Brehaut's injury in Saturday's game against Washington State was a broken leg, Bruins fans and officials were holding their breath waiting for the other shoe to drop...no pun intended.

Via Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times, the official word on Brehaut's injury is a fractured left fibula. UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel indicated that the Bruins quarterback could be out anywhere from three to six weeks, which could mean that the fracture is effectively ending Brehaut's season.

Brehaut left Saturday's game in the second quarter when he suffered what at first appeared to be a twisted ankle, but was unable to walk off the field on his own. Brehaut has started four of the six Bruins games this season, and up until the injury had passed for 907 yards with six touchdowns.

Kevin Prince, who was the starting quarterback at the beginning of the season, was able to lead the Bruins to a come-from-behind injury over the Cougars after Brehaut was injured. He will be the starting quarterback while Brehaut is out. The Orange County Register reports that freshman quarterback Brett Hundley is taking extra practice in order to be ready as the potential backup QB.

The game went back and forth all night, but it was ultimately the UCLA Bruins that prevailed over the Washington State Cougars. The difference in the game proved to be WSU’s inability to score touchdowns in the red zone, while UCLA showed big play ability when it counted. With a final score of 28-25, it wasn’t easy for the Bruins to put away one of the Pac 12s bottom feeders over the last decade.

The winning drive was a five play bit of brilliance led by Kevin Prince, highlighted by a one handed, nearly fumbled Nelson Rosario catch for 58 yards. Rosario ran a post pattern from the right side of the field, and with what looked like a foot in height advantage over WSU’s covering corner, there wasn’t much more to do than to catch it.

A Kevin Prince seven yard touchdown pass to Shaquelle Evans put the Bruins up one, and a two point conversion pass again over the middle to Rosario put UCLA up a field goal.

WSU still had a chance to tie it up. Marshall Lobbesteal marched his Cougars to just short of midfield, but had his final pass of the night intercepted by UCLA’s Andrew Abbott, who celebrated up and down the field knowing he had just won the game for his team.

Washington State managed to go up five points with 5:49 left, on a 47 yard field goal by Andrew Furney. The score and the time remaining made it Kevin Prince’s game to win, and the 71 yard drive didn’t disappoint.

UCLA moves to 3-3 on the season, and 2-1 in Pac-12 play. The Cougars fall to 3-2 and 1-1 in Pac-12 play. For both schools, three wins while six gams into the season is an improvement, just three more wins needed to qualify for a bowl game.

The early diagnosis for Richard Brehaut’s injury is a left lower leg fracture. He was seen on crutches, and is being reported as likely to miss the rest of the season.

Cornerback Jamie Graham has also gone down with a left knee injury, and will not return to the game.

This puts a great deal of pressure on Kevin Prince, but perhaps knowing the position is his will be good for his confidence. The cornerback injury means UCLA will be making some important depth chart decisions in the near future.

It’s been a low scoring, low offense game so far. Washington State has managed three five minute field goal drives, while UCLA managed to push the ball over the goal line with the backup quarterback at the helm. Richard Brehaut started the game, but had to be taken out on the cart with an apparent ankle injury.

Kevin Prince, who began the season as the starter, had to come in and has thrown for fifty yards. Most of that was a 41 yard pass to Nelson Rosario, which was called a touchdown on the field but was overturned on replay. Derrick Coleman ran it in from the one yard line to give UCLA the points they’d thought they’d already earned.

The 42 yard pass turning into a 41 yard pass also means that Prince has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns since coming in for Brehaut. On the Cougar 15, Prince threw for the corner of the end zone but was picked off by Damante Horton. The interception kept the score 9-7 going into halftime.

This is a game that’s shaping up to come down to the final drive, but not in a good way. Washington State needs to prove they can do more than get three points in the red zone. While UCLA needs to prove that it can sustain drives under Kevin Prince.

After one quarter, the UCLA Bruins trail the WSU Cougars by the difference of a field goal.

UCLA, who defeated the Cougars by 14 points the last time that WSU traveled to the Rose Bowl, is still waiting for their offense to show up. After fifteen minutes of regulation play, the Bruins have scored a grand total of zero first downs and a whopping 12 total yards.

UCLA has held possession of the ball for under three minutes. If there is a silver lining to be found in the early portion of this game, it is that the Bruins have been able to hold the Cougars to just a field goal. UCLA will need to perform markedly better throughout the rest of the game unless they want WSU to emerge from this game being 2-0 in Pac-12 play.

Bruins quarterback Richard Brehaut has completed two passes, which account for UCLA's six yards of offense.

UCLA Bruins head coach Rick Neuheisel really has to shake things up to get his moribund defense in order, and he might be making a crucial move. Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times with the reports.

The talented but disappointing Datone Jones is moving down in the lineup, and Owamagbe Odighizuwa is back playing with the first team at defensive end. Jones has had trouble mustering any tackles as the UCLA starter, and could use a change. Owa certainly has the talent to be more than capable for the Bruins on their defensive line.

Safety Alex Mascarenas (concussion) and Sheldon Price (knee) have not practiced. They are not expected to suit up, which should give Marshall Lobbestael a big impetus to throw downfield on Saturday.

Tyler Gonzalez could be used for shorter kicks, like extra points and field goals. Jeff Locke would retain kickoff and longer kick duties.

Offensive guard Albert Cid is suiting up with the first team. Chris Ward did not practice.

Rick Neuheisel is running out of time to turn things around for UCLA football. He now faces what is pretty much a must-win opportunity against Washington State.

The UCLA Bruins are struggling to put everything together, and Rick Neuheisel could be seeing the end of his tenure as head coach if things don't turn around fast. If UCLA expects to make any noise in the conference, they need to start stringing wins together in a hurry, and one of their best chances to log a victory will come this Saturday.

Vegas isn't very high on the Bruins right now, as UCLA is three-and-a-half to four point favorites according to various sportsbooks. It makes sense that the line is that low. The Washington St. Cougars might be trending up in the Pac-12, and their offense has proven they can score with most teams even with Jeff Tuel out. UCLA will have to put their best effort forward, or otherwise a brutal defeat could come their way on the football field this Saturday night.
