The Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday completed their three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals with a 9-4 win at Busch Stadium. After the game, the Dodgers made a roster move, activating relief pitcher Kenley Jansen from the disabled list. To create room on the roster for Jansen, the Dodgers optioned pitcher Josh Lindblom to Double A Chattanooga.

Jansen was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 29 with cardiac arrhythmia after having an irregular heartbeat in a save against Colorado one night earlier. Jansen on the season is 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA and has struck out 61 batters in 37 innings this season. He has an active streak of 16 scoreless innings. Jansen pitched in two rehab games this week with Class A Rancho Cucamongaand retired all six batters he faced, with four strikeouts.

Lindblom was 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA in 16 appearances for the Dodgers this season. He is expected to return in September, once active rosters expand, though he can't return until September 4, unless he is replacing an injured player, because optioned players must spend at least 10 days on optional assignment before returning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers gave plenty of run support to Hiroki Kuroda for the third straight start, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-4 to complete a three-game sweep. Home runs by Juan Rivera and A.J. Ellis paced the offense, who scored 24 runs in the three-game series. For Kuroda, the runs were a welcome change of pace.

Kuroda received 24 runs in a 12-start stretch from June to August, and was just 2-9 despite a 2.54 ERA. The Dodgers have scored 24 runs in Kuroda's last three starts, all wins. Kuroda allowed three runs in seven innings for his 10th win of the season.

The home run for Ellis was the first of his major league career. Ellis went nearly three years without a home run in the majors or minors until hitting two in Triple A in July. Rivera had a double and a home run for the Dodgers. James Loney had two doubles and a single, and has 11 hits in his last 17 at-bats.

The Dodgers are off Thursday, but open a weekend series with Colorado Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Hiroki Kuroda has pitched seven straight quality starts since the All-Star break.

With wins on Monday and Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers have already won their first road series against the St. Louis Cardinals since 2003. On Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium, the Dodgers go for the sweep, with Hiroki Kuroda on the mound on getaway day. Jaime Garcia gets the start for St. Louis.

Kuroda on the season is 9-14 with a 2.88 ERA. Since the All-Star break he has quality starts in all seven outings, putting up a 2.42 ERA during that span with 43 strikeouts in his last 44 2/3 innings. Kuroda lost to the Cardinals at Dodger Stadium on April 14, allowing six runs in five innings.

Andre Ethier is in the midst of a 3-for-41 slump and gets the day off against the left-handed pitcher Garcia. That's a good thing too, as Ethier is hitting just .223/.262/.309 against southpaws this season and has not had a .300 on-base percentage against same-handed pitchers since 2008. Here is Wednesday's Dodgers lineup:
