Seven of the 12 incoming USC Trojans recruits hail from the offensive side, including a trio of five-star recruits.

With limited scholarships at his disposal to use, USC Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin and staff had to evaluate and plan in a tight space to form a suitable 2012 recruiting class. On Wednesday, National Signing Day, the Trojans did just that, for the most part, with 12 signees, leaving three scholarships to use in 2013.

More: On USC's 2012 Recruiting Class

No doubt the the jewels of the class include Rivals five-star prospects wide receiver Nelson Agholor, offensive tackle Zach Banner, and offensive guard Jordan Simmons. All three look to contribute early in an already potent offense devised by Kiffin.

Here is a position-by-position analysis of the additions to the USC offense:

Quarterback

The USC staff didn't embark on trail to reach out to a quarterback until they showed considerable interest in quarterback Cyler Miles of Mullen high school, Denver. Colo. Miles did officially visit the Trojans in January and took a hard look at USC late in the process, but Miles' long commitment to the Huskies proved to be too much for a switch on signing day.

Running Back

With the departures of Marc Tyler to the NFL and Amir Carlisle, who transferred to Notre Dame, USC had to look for a running back late in the recruiting process. Unfortunately, they did not sign a true tailback prospect in this class. Jahleel Pinner is the top fullback prospect, according to Rivals, but doesn't have the speed to be a solid tailback. Agholor primary played as a running back in his senior year of high school, but is currently at 180 pounds. The Trojans will enter the 2012 season with a thin depth chart at running back.

Wide Receiver

In addition to the aforementioned Agholor, USC signed Darreus Rogers. Agholor, ranked as the No.18 overall prospect on Rivals.com, is a Tampa, Fla. prospect that is very elusive when open, has top-end speed, long arms, and a great vertical. He'll be looked to enter the fray of highly touted USC receivers that include Robert Woods and Marqise Lee. That's not to say Rogers is a slouch. Rogers is 6'2", 200 pounds and possesses amazing big hands. Speed is questionable, but with with a great vertical and weight to add in his nice wide frame of his, he can be a solid possession receiver.

Tight End

Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick slides into this slot as the only tight end prospect in this class. The Under Armour All-American gave the Oregon Ducks a hard look before ending the process after his official visit in late January to solidify his status as a USC signee. JCF, as he is commonly called on the internet, will try to battle an already stacked position at tight end, but with great hands and ball control, anything is possible to move up in the depth chart.

Offensive Line

USC shined in this class with headliners Banner (6'9", 310 pounds), Simmons (6'5", 330 pounds), Max Tuerk (6'6", 294 pounds) signing with the Trojans. All three were Army All-Americans selections, and add to a line that lost two seniors and Matt Kalil to the NFL draft. With the three big offensive lineman signed and sealed, Kiffin would have liked to have another offensive tackle on hand to add needed depth. Unfortunately, USC couldn't close on the signings of highly ranked prospects Andrus Peat of Arizona, nor San Clemente, Calif. tackle extraordinaire Kyle Murphy.

It was believed that USC had a more than decent chance to land one of Peat or Murphy, with the other signing with Stanford. However, the Cardinal won the battle for both, helping Stanford to what many call the top recruiting class in the Pac-12 Conference. Kiffin was visibly disappointed during his signing day press conference, but still admired his signed prospects in the end.

This offensive recruiting class adds depth to an already talented line, but whiffed on the running back position. Look for USC to sign at least two running backs next year as thy will only have two tailbacks on the roster after 2012. The Trojans have gotten to a head start by offering a scholarship to Derrick Green of Virginia on Tuesday.

Wednesday was busy day for college football, and a productive day for both Lane Kiffin and Jim Mora. On National Signing Day, both the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins secured recruiting classes rated somewhere in the top 15, as rated by Bud Elliott at SB Nation.

Mora brought in 26 players in his first class with the Bruins, plus two more players who enrolled early, for a total of 28 new Bruins. Five-star defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy was the signature recruit for UCLA, which was ranked No. 15 by Elliott, who combined his own ranking with four other rating services.

Kiffin was limited by scholarship sanctions to only bringing in 15 players, and Kiffin went even lower, with a class of just 12, leaving room to bring in 18 players in 2013. But 11 of the 12 players who signed with USC were rated four stars or higher by Rivals, giving the Trojans one of the top bang-for-your-buck classes, and No. 10 overall.

The highlights for USC were on offense, with wide receiver Nelson Agholor of Tampa, Florida joining fellow five-star recruits Zach Banner and Jordan Simmons, both offensive linemen.

The Stanford Cardinal, buoyed by one of the best offensive line recruiting classes in some time, is the highest rated Pac-12 Conference team, coming in at No. 7 overall. The Oregon Ducks checked in with the No. 18 recruiting class, while the Washington Huskies were No. 21. All in all, not a bad day for the Pac-12 in adding talent.

The USC Trojans and head coach Lane Kiffin had his work cut out for him on National Signing Day, as the school is restricted to bringing in 15 scholarship players (rather than the usual limit of 25) in each of the next three years due to NCAA sanctions. The Trojans went even lower than that on Wednesday with only 12 signees, but the Trojans made them count, still a highly rated class full of impact players.

"We didn't reach," Kiffin said in his press conference, noting that USC can bring in as many as 18 players next year. "We had a specific plan which was targeting quality players. As you missed [out on some of them], [it] gives us some room for next year."

The two surprise recruits on Wednesday came from Florida, as Tampa wide receiver Nelson Agholor and Daytona Beach defensive end Leonard Williams gave USC a pair of impact players from the Sunshine State. USC lost two offensive linemen to the Stanford Cardinal in Andrus Peat and Kyle Murphy, but the Trojans still came away with three Rivals top 50 linemen in Zach Banner, Jordan Simmons, and Max Tuerk.

Here is the full class of 2012 for the Trojans, complete with their Rivals star rating:

Darreus Rogers, a consensus 4-star recruit out of Carson Senior High School in Carson, CA has committed to the USC Trojans on National Signing Day. The 6'2", 200 pound wide receiver eventually chose Lane Kiffin and the Trojans over fellow Pac-12 rival Arizona St. Sun Devils, and likely will be the last of the 2012 USC recruiting class.

Rogers has a big, athletic body that can get up and meet the ball at it's highest point, as well as some sneaky speed. With the wideout's singing, it signals the likely end of the signings USC will partake in this recruiting class.

"We saved those three spots...balancing out the penalty is what we're doing."

Either way, from the talent USC is stacking, Kiffin looks like he knows what he's doing.

Rogers had been committed to USC for more than a year though He also had offers from Arizona State, Miami, Oregon, Southern Methodist, and UCLA. He joins a great corps of receivers at USC, highlighted by Robert Woods. Rivals rates Rogers as one of the top 30 receivers in the country, and the 198th talent overall in the nation.

As if the offensive line class for Stanford couldn't get any better with the signings of top tackles, Andrus Peat, Joshua Garnett, and Brandon Fanaika, whom were all All-American selections, the Cardinal received a pleasant surprise with the signing of Kyle Murphy, the No. 3 rated offensive tackle prospect and No. 19 overall on Rivals.com.

Murphy is also the second-best prospect in the state of California.

The product of San Clemente High School, San Clemente, Calif., juggled two schools on his final list, USC and Stanford, before ultimately committing to the Cardinal. The commitment from Andrus Peat, who signed with Stanford earlier today, was thought to have shifted Murphy's decision in favor of USC as recruiting experts thought Murphy would sign with the Cardinal. But those thoughts were put to rest when Murphy flipped the Cardinal hat on at his announcement ceremony at his school.

The thought was that way before USC came closing in on his trail after Murphy officially visited the Trojans on the weekend of Jan. 21.

USC had its last in-home visit with Murphy on Saturday and Pat Haden was believed to be part of the visit.

Cyler Miles, the No. 2 quarterback in the country, according to Rivals.com, was reportedly wavering his commitment from the University of Washington and considering USC, but Miles announced at his school today that he will honor his original commitment and sticking with the Huskies.

The Army All-American chose to open his recruitment after former offensive coordinator, Doug Nussmeier, left UW for Alabama late last year.

After performing well at the Army All-American bowl, USC discussed an official visit with Miles in San Antonio, Tex., which Miles confirmed to do. A Jan. 21 visit, which wasn't openly reported until after, brought more interest to USC. Miles hosted Lane Kiffin and staff for an in-home visit soon afterwards.

In the end, Miles had been leaning with the Huskies too long of time not to decommit.

The USC Trojans add huge bodies on the offensive line as they officially signed Zach Banner, Jordan Simmons, and Max Tuerk.

Banner is the talented of the bunch with the higher ranking of the three at No. 16 nationally and the No. 2 overall left tackle prospect. The Lakewood High School product from Lakewood, Wash. has unofficially visited the Trojans several times last year.

Banner, who is a 5-star prospect, officially visited the Trojans on Jan. 21 and raved about his visit there, which probably sealed the deal for his signature.

Simmons, another 5-star prospect and No. 25 overall prospect on Rivals.com, will mostly likely compete for a spot inside the line. The 6-5, 330 pound prospect was exceptional in the Nike camps last year. Simmons, who played all positions on the line at Crespi high school, Encino, Calif., was an Army All-American selection, but tore his MCL during practices.

Tuerk, Army All-American, No. 46 overall prospect on Rivals.com, committed early in the recruiting trail, after giving the USC staff a verbal after being offered a scholarship after his performance from the Nike camp in Palo Alto, Calif.

Tuerk was the star of highly rated offensive line that of Santa Margarita High School, Santa Margarita, Calif., who won their division state championship last year.

Though the Trojans get commitments from three of the highly rated tackles in the country, they finished second in the trail for highly touted prospect in Andrus Peat.
The USC Trojans have had a busy morning on National Signing Day 2012, receiving commitments from a pair of top recruits from Florida in speedster Nelson Agholor from Tampa and defensive end Leonard Williams from Daytona Beach. But while these players have publicly committed to the Trojans, including many on television, nothing is official until they have signed on the dotted line.

These players have officially joined the USC class of 2012.

Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick: The four-star tight end from Whitney High School in Rocklin, California was an Under Armour All-American in 2011.
