It was another night of missed opportunities for the Angels as the Tampa Bay Rays sweep their 3-game series taking the final game 4-3 in ten innings.

The Angels (30-34) failed to capitalize with runners on second and third with none out in the 2nd inning when Rays' starter James Shields struck out the next three batters to end the threat. In the 5th the Angels had the bases loaded with one out when Torii Hunter hit into his league leading 17th double play.

Bobby Abreu finally got a clutch hit in the 8th with a bases clearing, 3-run double to tie the game, but the Angels were unable to take the lead when he was stranded at third when Mark Trumbo popped out to short and Vernon Wells struck out to end the inning.

In what's becoming a theme for the Angels starters, Jered Weaver pitched well enough to win, but was once again left with nothing to show for his effort. Weaver went 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking one.

Fernando Rodney (2-3) entered the game in the 10th inning and immediately walked the first batter he faced followed by an infield single to pinch-hitter Evan Longoria. The go-ahead run scored after John Jaso stole 3rd and was squeezed home by Reid Brignac putting the Rays (33-29) back on top.

Juan Cruz (3-0) pitched a perfect 9th to get the win and Kyle Farnsworth earned his 13th save of the season with a scoreless 10th.

The loss is the Angels 5th straight, tying their season worst stretch and dropping them to 5.5 games behind the division leading Texas Rangers.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia is trying something new with the Angels' lineup tonight. Torii Hunter, typically in the clean-up spot, will be batting second, while Bobby Abreu drops from third to clean-up. The last time Hunter started a game as the #2 hitter was 12 years ago while a member of the Minnesota Twins.

The Angels hope to avoid matching their longest losing streak of the season Wednesday night when they face the Tampa Bay Rays for the final time in the 2011 regular season.

Having lost 4 in-a-row and 6 of 7, the Angels look to Jered Weaver (7-4, 2.14 ERA) to be their "stopper". The last time the Halos won was last Friday when Weaver beat the New York Yankees. In that game, Weaver went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits. With the way the Angels' offense has been hitting recently, it's going to take another dominating outing from Weaver if the Angels hope to end their current streak.

Looking to keep the Angels out of the wins column will be right-hander James Shields (5-4, 2.77 ERA). Shields is also looking to rebound from his worst start of the season when he allowed eight runs in 4 innings during Thursday's loss to Seattle.

Both Weaver and Shields has had success against their opposing teams. In six starts against the Rays, Weaver has gone 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA. Shields has been just as good against the Angels. In seven starts he is 4-2 while compiling a 2.58 ERA.

Who's Hot - Last 7 Games:
Bobby Abreu - 9 for his last 21 (.429), 3 2B, 2 SB
Mark Trumbo - 7 for his last 22 (.318), 3 2B, 1 HR
Maicer Izturis - 6 for his last 20 (.300)

Johnny Damon- 11 for his last 29 (.379), 3 2B, 1 3B
Ben Zobrist - 9 for his last 28 (.321), 2 2B

Who's Cold - Last 7 Games:
Torii Hunter - 3 for his last 23 (.130)
Howie Kendrick - 1 for his last 14 (.071)
Alberto Callaspo - 5 for his last 24 (.208)

Matt Joyce - 4 for his last 26 (.154)
Sean Rodriguez - 1 for his last 18 (.056), 9 K
BJ Upton -3 for his last 21 (.143)

Game time is 7:05 (PDT) and will be show in Fox Sports West. For more Angels' news, be sure to check out Halos Heaven.
