Four straight singles in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Minnesota Twins a 1-0 victory over the Angels at Target Field in Minnesota. Danny Valencia's single off Kevin Jepsen with one out in the final frame scored Jason Repko, ending a great pitchers' duel. Jered Weaver threw nine scoreless innings, striking out seven, and the Angels needed it, as Anthony Swarzak of the Twins took a no-hitter into the eighth inning for Minnesota. However, both starters ended up with no-decisions despite pitching magnificent game.

For most of the game, the story was Swarzak, who took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Peter Bourjos doubled down the left field line with one out in the top of the eighth inning to break up the no-no, but he was stranded on second base. Through eight innings, the pitching lines were nearly identical for Swarzak and Weaver: eight scoreless frames, three baserunners (one hit and two walks for Swarzak, two hits and a walk for Weaver), 105 pitches, 68 strikes. Weaver, unlike Swarzak, continued to pitch the ninth inning, allowing a walk but no runs, pushing his pitch count to a season-high 128 pitches.

Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire did not stick around to see Swarzak's entire outing, as he was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning for arguing a play at second base. Weaver picked off Denard Span at second base to end the inning, a close play in which shortstop Erick Aybar appeared to block the bag with his foot.

The Angels are 4-8 in extra-innings this season. The Angels are 2-3 in the brief existence of Target Field, dating back to last season. Dan Haren faces off with Carl Pavano in the series finale in Minnesota Sunday morning.

Anthony Swarzak of the Minnesota Twins had a no-hitter through 7 1/3 innings against the Angels at Target Field, but a double by Peter Bourjos with one out in the eighth inning broke it up. Unfortunately for Swarzak he does not have the lead. Through seven and a half innings, the game is a scoreless tie, thanks to Jered Weaver, who has nearly matched Swarzak pitch for pitch.

After Russell Branyan began the inning with a groundout to second base, Bourjos lined a clean double to left field to break up the no-hitter. Pinch hitter Hank Conger popped out to third baseman Danny Valencia in foul territory for the second out, then Alexi Amarista flew out to center field to end the Angels' best scoring threat of the night.

The Twins have the lowest-scoring offense in the American League, averaging 3.45 runs per game entering tonight's contest. Only the Padres and Dodgers have been worse in all of baseball. Weaver has allowed two hits and a walk through seven innings so far, lowering his season ERA to 2.15.

The seventh inning came and went for Anthony Swarzak of the Twins, and the pitcher still has a no-hitter going against the Angels. The problem is, his manager won't be around to see it. Ron Gardenhire was ejected for arguing a pickoff play at second base that ended the Twins' sixth inning in a scoreless duel between Swarzak and Jered Weaver at Target Field in Minnesota.

The Angels' seventh inning went like this:

Bobby Abreu flew out to right fielder Michael Cuddyer

Torii Hunter flew out to center fielder Denard Span

Alberto Callaspo flew out to left fielder Delmon Young

Swarzak has thrown 94 pitches through seven innings, 60 for strikes. The 25-year old threw a career-high 122 pitches in a game back on July 26, 2009, against the Angels.

Jered Weaver has thrown six shutout innings for the Angels, allowing just two hits. Due up for the Angels in the eighth inning will be Russell Branyan, Peter Bourjos, and Jeff Mathis.

So far at Target Field, there is quite a pitching duel between the Twins and Angels. Jered Weaver has been his usual self, pitching five scoreless innings so far, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out four. However, the story of the game so far is Anthony Swarzak, who has a no-hitter through six innings for Minnesota.

Swarzak, who came into tonight's start with a 3-9 record and a 6.41 ERA in 66 major league innings, has allowed no hits and two walks in his six innings of work, throwing 81 pitches. He has four strikeouts and has kept the Angels mostly on the ground, with seven groundouts, three flyouts, and four shallow pop outs so far.

The last time the Angels were no-hit was also in Minnesota, when young Eric Milton shut down the Halos on September 11, 1999 at the Metrodome. Due up for the Angels in the top of the seventh are Bobby Abreu, Torii Hunter, and Alberto Callaspo.

The Angels moved back into first place with Friday's comeback win in Minnesota, and look to capture their second win of the series Saturday in a prime time game on Fox. Jered Weaver gets the call for the Angels, looking for his seventh win of the season. Anthony Swarzak gets the call for the Twins.

Minnesota built a 5-0 lead after seven innings last night, but the Angels stunned the Twins with a five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Angels sent nine men to the plate against three Twins' relievers, the highlight of the inning a three-run home run by Erick Aybar. Then, after Peter Bourjos leadoff the ninth with a triple, Maicer Izturis drove him in with a single for the final 6-5 margin.

Weaver is 6-4 with a 2.35 ERA this season in 11 starts. He was 6-0 with an 0.99 ERA in April, but is 0-4 with a 4.35 ERA in May. He allowed just one run in seven innings Monday against Oakland, but got a no-decision. Swarzak is 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA this season for Minnesota.
