The Dodgers started off their Saturday night by pitching three scoreless innings to secure victory in the resumption of Friday's suspended game. They ended the night with nine more shutout innings, as Hiroki Kuroda led the Dodgers to a 4-0 win over the Padres at Petco Park. It was the second straight win for the Dodgers, who are 5-3 on the season.

Kuroda was brilliant for 8 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out four Padres. The Dodgers used six relievers in the suspended game, and since Saturday was the second of 20 games in 20 days for the Dodgers, they needed Kuroda to pitch deep into the game. And pitch deep is what Kuroda did, delivering the longest outing of the season by a Dodger starter.

Jonathan Broxton secured the final out of the game, a grounder to third that led to a runner's interference call on Chase Headley of the Padres. It was the second save of the day, even if not technically (the suspended game was technically a Friday game). The last Dodger to save two games in one day was Jeff Shaw, who picked up two saves at Wrigley Field on August 25, 2000.

The Dodger outfield led the offense. Tony Gwynn, who got the game-winning hit in the first game, picked up two more hits in the nightcap to go with two steals and two runs scored. Matt Kemp got three hits and three steals, a new career high. Andre Ethier had three hits of his own, including a home run, his first of the season.

John Ely will be recalled before Sunday's game, to start the series finale as the Dodgers go for the sweep. The Dodgers will need to make a corresponding roster move to accommodate Ely's inclusion on the active roster. Aaron Harang will start for the Padres.

Tony Gwynn collecting two hits in a Los Angeles Dodgers game in San Diego is nothing new. In fact, it happened 35 times in the Hall of Famer's career. Tonight was just the second such time for his son, Tony Gwynn Jr., and first as a Dodger. Gwynn delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the 11th inning, giving the Dodgers a 4-2 victory in the resumption of a suspended game that started on Friday night.

Gwynn, who grew up in San Diego under the shadow of his father and played with the Padres for two seasons, knew a moment like this would come for him...sort of. "I've envisioned it, but it's definitely not in the circumstances we were in now," the outfielder said after the game, and before the start of the nightcap, which was Saturday's regularly scheduled game.

Blake Hawksworth pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three for the win, his first of the season. Jonathan Broxton pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save of the season. Manager Don Mattingly was noncommittal after the first game when asked if Broxton would be available for the second game Saturday night, saying only, "We'll find out."

Hiroki Kuroda and Dustin Moseley started the nightcap, which began at 7:34 p.m. PDT.

The Dodgers and Padres will resume their suspended game from Friday night before Saturday night's regularly schedule game at Petco Park in San Diego. The game is tied 2-2 in the top of the ninth inning, with Matt Kemp on first base, and Juan Uribe batting for the Dodgers. Heath Bell is the pitcher on the mound for the Padres, while Hong-Chih Kuo is still technically the pitcher for Los Angeles.

The resumption of that suspended game will begin at 5:30 p.m. PDT, and will be televised by KCAL. The Dodgers and Padres will then begin a new game, roughly 25-30 minutes after that contest. Hiroki Kuroda is expected to start for the Dodgers in the nightcap, opposed by Dustin Moseley of the Padres.

Chad Billingsley, who is scheduled to start Tuesday in San Francisco, was held back from his throw day, and will be available to pitch tonight, in either the first or second game if needed. Rafael Furcal, who is still in the first game lineup, hurt his left wrist on a check swing earlier in the week in Colorado, is having trouble when swinging, but not in the field. He will continue to play in the first game, but will sit out the second game. Manager Don Mattingly said he hopes to have Furcal ready to play Sunday.

After over three and a half hours of rain delays, combined with over three hours of game time, the Dodgers and Padres were tied at 2-2 at Petco Park. The game was suspended in the top of the ninth inning, and will be resumed Saturday night at 5:35 p.m. PDT, before the Dodgers' scheduled game with the Padres. Matt Kemp is on first base, after collecting his third hit of the night, with nobody out.

Heath Bell and Hong-Chih Kuo are the pitchers of record right now, and Juan Uribe is the batter due up when play resumes. The game started with a half hour delay, then both Ted Lilly and Clayton Richard threw a scoreless inning. Then, however, a roughly 90-minute delay ensued, after which Richard departed in favor of Corey Luebke. Lilly resumed for the Dodgers, and was able to pitch 4 1/3 innings, which saved the bullpen somewhat.

The Dodgers struck first scoring thanks to a throwing error by catcher Nick Hundley on a double steal by Matt Kemp and Casey Blake, allowing Blake to score. The Padres scored two runs in the fifth, but a Kemp RBI single in the top of the sixth tied the game at 2-2. Each team has three relievers left that haven't been used in the game.

Hiroki Kuroda and Dustin Moseley are expected to start the nightcap Saturday night.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to snap their two-game losing streak as they begin a three-game series at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres. Ted Lilly and Clayton Richard will start, in a battle of left-handers. With the lefty, Marcus Thames starts in left field for the Padres, and Juan Uribe bats fifth with James Loney sixth in their lineup do-si-do. Here are tonight's lineups:

The Los Anglees Dodgers continue their road trip through the National League West Friday night, as they open a three-game series in San Diego against the Padres at Petco Park. Friday's game features a battle of southpaws, as Ted Lilly starts for the Dodgers while Clayton Richard takes the hill for the Padres. This is the first meeting of the season between the two clubs.

Lilly is 6-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) in his career against the Padres, including 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA at Petco Park. Richard is 4-0 with a 2.56 ERA in five career starts against the Dodgers, and has given up just five runs in his last four starts against the Dodgers. Both pitchers got their first career shutouts against the other team: Lilly in San Diego in 2002, and Richard at Dodger Stadium last September.

A left-hander on the mound likely means Marcus Thames will start in left field for the Dodgers, which will relegate Tony Gwynn Jr. to the bench. Gwynn, who had his best major league season in 2009 with the Padres, was non-tendered by the Padres last December after hitting just .204/.304/.287 last season. Juan Uribe, now playing second base after the return of Casey Blake from the disabled list, is 7-for-15 with a triple and a home run in his career against Richard.

Both the Padres and Dodgers had both Monday and Thursday off, a rarity to get two days off in the same week. The Dodgers are just 28-35, a .444 winning percentage, at Petco Park since it opened in 2004. Tonight's 7:05 p.m. PDT game will be televised by Prime Ticket. The remaining two games of the weekend will be on KCAL.
