Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant dropped a game-high 32 points with six assists, while Lamar Odom added a 22-point, seven-rebound performance to lead the Los Angeles Lakers past the New Jersey Nets, 99-92, at the Prudential Center. Pau Gasol had a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards for the Lakers, who improved to 2-1 on their seven-game road trip. Derek Fisher chipped in 10 points in the win.

Brook Lopez had 25 points and nine rebounds to lead New Jersey, which has lost seven straight games. Kris Humphries had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Devin Harris posted 16 points and 10 assists in the loss. The final quarter saw four different ties, with the last one coming with 2:44 left to play when Harris hit a floater to make the score 87-87.

But Bryant and Odom took over during the final two minutes of the game, as Bryant's acrobatic drive and dish to a streaking Odom for an easy dunk made it a five-point game, 92-87, with 62 seconds left to play. During the ensuing possession, Bryant picked up a loose ball for a turnover, which resulted in a Odom three-pointer with 42.2 seconds left. The Lakers were then able to seal the game from the free throw line.

The Nets started with a 7-0 lead, but Odom countered with 12 first quarter points. He made it a one-point game with a layup at the 6:17 mark. Lopez hit a layup during the next possession while Bryant answered back with a three to knot the game at 14. Less than five minutes later, Odom again drove the lane for a layup to give the Lakers a 30-24 lead at the end the first quarter.

Trailing 45-36 with 5:15 remaining in the opening half, New Jersey went on a six-point burst capped off by a Terrence Williams tip shot. The Lakers, though, scored last seven points of the half as Gasol finished the half's scoring with a jam to give them a 52-42 lead at the break. New Jersey made it a one-point game with a nine-point run in the early stages of the third quarter. Anthony Morrow's trey ended the spurt.

Los Angeles then built its lead back to 10, 69-59, on a Bryant long ball, but that was the final points the team scored in the frame. Meanwhile, Lopez and Derrick Favors each scored four points to lead an eight-point rally to make a 69-67 score heading into the final period. The Lakers have won the last six matchups with the Nets...New Jersey only made 4-of-20 three-point tries, while Los Angeles went 7-for-16 from long distance.

The Los Angeles Lakers closed out the first half strong, and as a result lead the New Jersey Nets 52-42 at halftime at Prudential Center in New Jersey. The Lakers may have been having déjà vu as they saw a first quarter lead shrink, just as they did against the Bulls on Friday night, as the Nets turned a one-time nine-point lead to three points with 2:57 remaining in the half. However, the Lakers scored the final seven points of the second quarter, taking a 10-point lead into halftime.

Lamar Odom led the Lakers with 12 points in 15 minutes, making five of his seven field goal attempts. Pau Gasol added seven points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots, playing 21 minutes in the first half. Gasol has topped 40 minutes in six of his last nine games.

The Lakers shot 43.9% in the first 24 minutes, making the same 18 of 41 shots as the Nets. The Lakers, in their first day start of the season, a 10 a.m. PST tipoff, made just one of their first eight shots, but shot 51.5% after that. The Lakers bench combined for 16 points in the first half, making five of eight shots, including two of three shots from beyond the three-point arc.

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 12 points in the first half. New Jersey has lost six straight games.

Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers will look to get back on track with a morning affair Sunday at Prudential Center against the New Jersey Nets. The Lakers are playing their first day game of the season. The loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday night was the fifth in eight games for the two-time defending champions.

The Lakers are a far cry from their 13-2 start. After averaging an NBA-best 111.5 points per game in their first 15 games, they have scored just 97.8 points in their last eight games, scoring 100 points twice. They scored 100 points or more in 13 of their first 14 games, and scored 99 points in the other contest.

The Lakers have beaten the Nets five straight games, and they have beaten New Jersey in seven of their last eight encounters. The Lakers have won four straight games in New Jersey, with their last loss coming March 17, 2006. The Nets began this season 2-0, but are now 6-17 and have lost their last six games. The Nets are 4-6 at home this season.

Bryant scored 23 points in the loss to the Bulls on Friday night, and in doing so passed John Havlicek for 11th place on the all-time NBA scoring list. Among the walking wounded Lakers, both Pau Gasol (strained left hamstring) and Lamar Odom (sore right foot) are listed as probable, while Derrick Caracter is day-to-day with a sprained left ankle. For the Nets, both Devin Harris (sprained left shoulder) and Derrick Favors (right thigh contusion) are questionable.

Next up for Kobe is the Human Highlight Film, Dominique Wilkins, who is 270 points ahead of Bryant, in 10th place on the all-time NBA scoring list. Bryant is second in the league this season averaging 26.4 points per game, and could end up as high as sixth place on the all-time list at the end of the season. In fact, should Bryant keep up his scoring average, he would pass Moses Malone in 39 games.

Bryant has scored 20 points or more in each of his last 16 games, and 22 of 23 games this season. The Lakers continue their road trip with a Sunday morning affair at Prudential Center against the New Jersey Nets.
