Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to cap San Francisco's comeback, as the Giants edged the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-4, in the middle test of a three-game series.

The Giants trailed by four runs after six innings, but Buster Posey homered to begin the seventh. Edgar Renteria and Pat Burrell hit solo shots in the eighth to get the visitors within a run, and Uribe's one-out homer off Jonathan Broxton (5-5) put San Francisco on top.

Brian Wilson then pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn the save for San Francisco, which rebounded from a loss in Friday's series opener and gained ground in the NL West. First-place San Diego dropped its ninth in a row earlier Saturday, and the Giants' win pulled them within two games.

San Francisco also remained three games behind Philadelphia in the wild card chase, as the Phillies beat Milwaukee on Saturday.

Jay Gibbons hit a three-run homer for the Dodgers, who have lost five of seven.

Gibbons hit his home run off Giants starter Matt Cain, who pitched seven innings and got into trouble in only one of them -- the fourth. He walked leadoff batter Rafael Furcal, who stole second with one out and moved to third on James Loney's single.

Casey Blake pulled a double down the left field line to plate Furcal, and Gibbons followed with his third home run of the season to make it a 4-0 game.

But Cain rebounded to set the Dodgers down in order in the fifth, and limited the damage to four runs. He gave up a total of seven hits, walked one and struck out six.

Meanwhile, Dodgers starter Ted Lilly held the Giants off the scoreboard until Posey began the seventh by crushing a high offspeed pitch to left field. Renteria opened the eighth with a homer to left to chase Lilly, who surrendered just three hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Octavio Dotel came in and got into a long battle with pinch-hitter Burrell, who swatted a fastball to left-center field to get San Francisco within 4-3.

After Javier Lopez (4-2) pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth, Broxton entered to close the game in the ninth. However, Cody Ross hit a one-out single before Uribe took Broxton's second pitch, a slider in the zone, over the center field wall.

Los Angeles still threatened in the ninth, which Blake began with a single. One out later, Blake advanced to third on Jamey Carroll's base hit. But Wilson got Rod Barajas to pop out to shallow right before pinch-hitter Reed Johnson hit a grounder to third. Pablo Sandoval fielded the ball cleanly and threw to second for the game-ending force out.

Burrell's homer was his first as a pinch-hitter since May 22, 2008...Broxton has six blown saves this season...Wilson's save was his 39th of the season...Blake finished 3-for-4.

Before tonight’s game with the Giants, Dodger manager Joe Torre said catcher Rod Barajas’ left elbow was feeling fine, and he’s in the lineup for the fifth straight game. Torre said Barajas, who was hit by a pitch on his elbow Friday night, has full range of motion.

Vicente Padilla threw a bullpen session Friday, and he is still on schedule to start Monday night in San Diego, the first game of a 10-game road trip that will see the Dodgers play the Padres, Astros, and Giants.

Hong-Chih Kuo threw 13 pitches last night, and has only been used on back-to-back nights twice this season, but Torre said Kuo would be available to pitch tonight “if it makes sense.” In both back-to-back instances, Kuo has faced only one batter in his second outing. Jonathan Broxton would close if the Dodgers have a save situation should Kuo not be available.

Tonight is Jamey Carroll’s first start at second base since July 31. Carroll has mostly started this season at shortstop, 61 games filling in for Rafael Furcal at various points this season. Tonight is Carroll’s 14th start at second base, and he has also started eight times and third base and five times in left field this season.

(Sports Network) - Matt Cain tries to make it two straight wins against the club that has given him more trouble than any other team in his young career when the San Francisco Giants continue their three-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers this evening at Dodger Stadium.

Cain is a miserable 1-8 lifetime against the Dodgers with a 3.94 ERA in 15 starts. However, his lone win against them came the last time he faced them back on August 1, when he scattered four hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings.

"It's obviously been a problem beating [the Dodgers]," Cain said after that elusive first victory. "It's one of those things where definitely I wanted to go out and win."

Cain, who is 10-10 with a 3.11 ERA on the year, did not get a decision on Sunday against Arizona, as he allowed three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings of his team's 9-7 win. He also struck out seven and walked a batter.

Opposing him will be Ted Lilly, who will be trying to rebound from his first loss as a Dodger.

Lilly saw his five-start winning streak come to an end Sunday in Colorado, as the Rockies reached him for seven runs and nine hits in just four innings. It was his first loss cine July 9 and dropped him to 8-9 on the season, while raising his earned run average to 3.59.

The 34-year-old left-hander is 3-1 with a 5.12 ERA in five starts against the Giants.

On Friday, Chad Billingsley was strong through eight innings of work and drove in the game-winning runs at the plate to carry Los Angeles to a 4-2 win in the opener of this set.

Billingsley (11-8) yielded two unearned runs on only two hits while walking a pair and fanning seven, with the right-hander combining with Hung-Chi Kuo to set down the last 10 Giants' hitters as the Dodgers ended a brief two-game slide. Kuo recorded his eighth save of the season.

"I seem to catch the Giants on my good day," Billingsley said. "The first few innings I was ahead on my fastball. As the game progressed, I threw more changeups. I could have gone out for the ninth if they wanted me to."

Rod Barajas continued his hot hitting since joining the Dodgers -- a team he grew up rooting for -- by hitting a home run in last night's triumph. Casey Blake went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for Los Angeles, which has now won seven of 13 matchups with the Giants thus far in 2010.

Barry Zito's (8-11) misery continued, as the Giants lefty was charged with four runs on four hits and four walks while fanning five in just four innings to suffer the loss. He remained winless in his last 10 games, the longest streak of his career.

San Francisco stayed three games behind NL West-leading San Diego, which lost at home to Colorado Friday night, but fell to three games behind Philadelphia in the race for the NL Wild Card.

The Giants had won in five of their past six meetings with the Dodgers prior to Friday's setback.
