Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) – Evan Longoria and Matt Joyce homered off Ervin Santana, and Wade Davis pitched into the sixth inning in his first game off the disabled list, as the Rays topped the Angels, 10-3, for their fourth straight win.

Davis (10-9), who hadn’t pitched since August 5 due to a right shoulder strain, won his fifth straight decision. The right-hander gave up six hits and two runs, while fanning five over 5 1/3 innings in the middle test of this three-game series.

John Jaso singled in two runs during Tampa Bay’s four-run second inning, on a night the Rays stayed tied for the lead in the AL East. They have won nine of 11 and are still even with the Yankees, who won at Toronto earlier Tuesday.

The Rays had never beaten the Angels in a series prior to this season, now they’ve done it twice, winning two of three games back in May. Prior to 2010, the Angels were 14-0-1 all-time at home in series vs. Tampa Bay.

Hideki Matsui had three hits, including a solo homer, for the Angels, who have lost three in a row and seven of nine. They now stand 10 games behind the AL West-leading Texas Rangers. Howie Kendick homered for the Angels, who are 2-for-25 with runners in scoring position over these two games.

Santana (13-9) permitted eight hits and six runs over 5 1/3 frames and had a three-start winning streak snapped.

It was tough-going in the second for Santana, who let the first four batters reach base. Among them was Dan Johnson’s RBI double. Jaso’s hit to center later in the frame made it 3-0. B.J. Upton stole third and scored on a Ben Zobrist sacrifice fly.

Matsui’s ground-rule RBI double in the bottom half cut the deficit, but Longoria led off the next inning with his 19th homer of the year.

Joyce went deep in the sixth, prompting the Angels to replace Santana with Michael Kohn.

Matsui scored on Bobby Wilson’s groundout in the bottom of the sixth, and the teams exchanged runs in the seventh. Longoria doubled home Zobrist and Kendrick tagged Lance Cormier for a homer to right field.

Carl Crawford added a two-run double off Brian Fuentes in the ninth and Joyce added a sacrifice fly.

The Angels loaded the bases against Andy Sonnanstine with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Matsui fanned and Juan Rivera grounded out.

Longoria had three hits…To clear a spot on the roster for Davis, the Rays optioned right-handed pitcher Mike Ekstrom to Triple-A Durham…Rays manager Joe Maddon was ejected in the fifth inning by second base umpire Angel Campos for arguing a caught stealing call against Longoria…Jeff Niemann is scheduled to come off the DL to start Wednesday afternoon for the Rays, while Dan Haren pitches for the Angels…Los Angeles went 1-for-14 with men in scoring position. The Angels are batting .192 (33-for-172) with RISP this month.

(Sports Network) - Ervin Santana goes after his fourth straight win this evening when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim continue their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Angel Stadium.

Santana's most recent win came on Thursday in Boston where he held the Red Sox to a pair of runs and four hits in seven innings to run his record to 13-8 on the year to go along with a 3.93 earned run average.

Extending that streak may not be a problem tonight, as the right-hander has won all three of his home starts against the Rays, while pitching to a 1.21 ERA. He is 4-4 lifetime against them with a 5.17 ERA in 10 starts.

The Rays moved back into a tie atop the American League East standings with a win in the opener of this set on Monday, as James Shields pitched six-plus innings and fanned 10 batters helping Tampa Bay 4-3.

B.J. Upton hit Scott Kazmir's first pitch of the game over the wall in left field. Upton finished with two RBI for the Rays, who won for the eighth time in 10 games and are tied with the Yankees atop the division. New York lost in Toronto, 3-2, earlier Monday.

Shields (12-11) surrendered eight hits and three runs -- two earned -- to win for the fifth time in his last seven starts. Rafael Soriano struck out the side in the ninth to get his major league-leading 38th save.

"We scored three out of the gate and I was able to go deep in the game," Shields said. "I had good command of my fastball as well as my change-up. I got into a nice rhythm. Every win now is pretty big."

Kazmir (8-11), who broke into the majors with Tampa Bay in 2004 but was traded to the Angels in August of last year, suffered yet another loss, his sixth over his last eight starts. The lefty was touched for five hits and four runs -- three earned -- in 5 1/3 innings.

"Giving up three passes in the first inning is a recipe for disaster," Kazmir said. "If I would have gotten by the first inning, it could have been a whole different outcome. It was frustrating."

Hideki Matsui stroked a two-run double for the Angels, who lost for the sixth time in eight games.

The Angels will take their swings tonight against the returning Wade Davis, who because of a shoulder strain will be pitching for the first time since August 5. He had won his last four decisions before going on the disabled list and is 9-9 on the year with a 4.45 ERA.

This will be Davis' first-ever start against the Angels.

The Rays took two of three from the Halos earlier in the year.
