Last Friday, the Lakers made their signing of Derrick Caracter, whom they selected with the 58th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, official; you can view the press release here.

Caracter performed impressively during summer league, with per-game averages of 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds. There’s no doubt his showing in Vegas contributed to the Lakers’ decision to sign him. As a second-round draft pick, the Lakers were under no obligation to offer him a contract, whereas first-rounders receive two-year contracts, with team options on the third and fourth years.

The Lakers now have 14 players under contract for next season, just one man shy of the league maximum.

The Los Angeles Lakers are seemingly planning to put the finishing touches of their squad together by the end of the week by signing their pair of second round picks.

First, the Lakers announced on Thursday the signing of forward Devin Ebanks, the first of two second-round selections in the draft.

Ebanks signed a non-guaranteed deal for the rookie minimum worth $473,604 if he makes the team, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Lakers are expected to sign their other second round pick Friday.

Derrick Caracter, a 6-9 big man selected No. 58 out of the University of Texas El Paso, has also agreed to terms with the team. Caracter is flying out to Los Angeles on Thursday to officially sign with the team Friday, according to Caracter's agent, Happy Walters.

Walters said Caracter's deal is guaranteed at the rookie minimum for 2010-11 with a team option in place worth approximately $788,000 for the following season.

Both players played well in the NBA Summer League, but it will be interesting to see what type of role their able to carve out for themselves on the Lakers' veteran-laden roster.
