Rose Bowl 2013, Stanford vs. Wisconsin score: Defense reigns supreme, Stanford leads 17-14

The score is 17-14 through three quarters at the 2013 Rose Bowl.

Neither the Stanford Cardinal nor the Wisconsin Badgers could get much offense going in the third quarter of the Rose Bowl as Stanford still leads 17-14 going into the final quarter.

The defenses of both teams were stellar and silenced offense for virtually all of the quarter. The Badgers first two drives stalled out and they didn't pick up a first down until their third drive of the quarter. Stanford was in the same boat, finally picking up a first down on their third drive when Kevin Hogan rushed for 13 yards with 6:30 left in the quarter.

The first four drives of the quarter, two by each team, yielded a net total of 4 yards. Even when the teams picked up their first downs they couldn't do much after. Curt Phillips rushed for 13 yards on the first play of the Badgers' third drive but then the offense sputtered again. Stanford had the same issue on their third drive, picking up the first down on the first play of the drive and were then immediately shut down by the Badgers' defense.

Wisconsin looked like something might get going as the seconds winded down in the third quarter but Phillips fell short of a first down. The two teams combined for just 59 total yards in the quarter.
