Pac-12 Title Game: Stanford 27, UCLA 24
The UCLA Bruins came up just short in Palo Alto Friday night, falling to the Stanford Cardinal 27-24 and losing out on a trip to the Rose Bowl.
The Stanford Cardinal is headed to its 13th Rose Bowl, the first trip since 2000. The school is 5-6-1 in the game, dating back to the very first edition in 1902. Stanford will face the winner of the Big Ten Championship, either Wisconsin or Nebraska.
UCLA and Stanford will fight Friday night, while Wisconsin and Nebraska fight Saturday night for a trip to the 2013 Rose Bowl. Outside of a UCLA-Nebraska rematch in Pasadena, the Rose Bowl could feature a rematch of sorts.
Is there any upside to the beating the UCLA Bruins took from the Stanford Cardinal? Motivation, maybe, or a clear idea of what they did wrong? With Friday's game being for the Pac-12 Championship, UCLA should hope they can find some silver lining.
UCLA is guaranteed to play for the Pac-12 Championship on the road thanks to Oregon's victory over Oregon State. If Stanford wins on Saturday night, the Bruins will face the Cardinal for the title. If UCLA wins, they get Oregon on the road.
The Bruins and Trojans will play Saturday for the right to represent the South Division in the Pac-12 Championship Game. But only UCLA has a scenario in which it could play host to the conference title tilt.
