The Loyola Marymount Lions kept a feisty Morgan St. Bears team at bay and left their Thursday night game in Los Angeles at the Albert Gerston Pavilion with a 79-62 win.
The Lions were led by Anthony Ireland's 27 points and six rebounds and Ashley Hamilton's 20 points and seven rebounds but only shot 39.4 percent from the field as a team. They made up for their poor shooting by holding the Bears to 35.9 percent shooting. The Bears also did not help their cause by missing 10 of their 22 free throw attempts.
The Lions dominated on the boards, 50-32, led by Chase Flint's 10 rebounds. The Lions went up, 34-22, with 4:35 remaining in the first half and never allowed the game to get back into single-digits.
With the win, Loyola Marymount moves to 6-6 on the season and Morgan State drops to 3-6. The Lions next play the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners on Dec. 29.
