Led by a huge night from junior guard Ayodeji Egbeyemi, the Loyola Marymount Lions made quick work of third-year program Pacifica, 108-49, at the Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles on Friday night. Egbeyemi scored a game-high 20 points on 9 of 16 shooting and added eight rebounds and six assists in the Lions' season opener.
Anthony Ireland, another junior guard, added 19 points, going 8 of 10 from the field and making his only attempt from behind the three-point line. LMU shot 57.7 percent as a team and used stifling defense to hold Pacifica to a dismal 23.1 percent.
LMU used 32 points off turnovers and 16 fast break points to pull away from their overmatched opponents. They scored 36 bench points, and a total of six players scored in double figures.
The road for LMU figures to get more difficult as the Lions travel to SMU to take on the Mustangs on the road on Sunday. They will open conference play on Jan. 3 at BYU.
