Reeves Nelson, a former UCLA standout, will attend training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers. The forward has signed a non-guaranteed contract that will pay out as much as $700,000 if he makes the team, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The 6'8 Nelson was once thought to be a first-round talent after an excellent freshman season for the Bruins. He used his strength and physical playing style to excel in rebounding and inside scoring while in college. Unfortunately, as his career progressed, his effectiveness diminished until he was dismissed from UCLA during his junior year.

The Los Angeles Times asked Nelson about his dismissal on Monday:

"I didn't get to play very much in the first three games, and after the fact they told me that it was testing my sportsmanship," Nelson said. "It was concerning everything that happened at UCLA and they said I did about as good as they ever could have expected."

It will be tough for Nelson to crack the Lakers' roster. He played professionally in Europe after leaving the Bruins, spending five weeks with BC Zalgiris in Lithuania before being released.
