Ramon Sessions Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Extend Starting Job Offer To Former Lakers PG

The Dallas Mavericks need a point guard now that their starter is headed elsewhere. I'm guessing Ramon Sessions fits the bill. Jeff Caplan of ESPN Dallas has this report.

A source close to the situation said the Mavs initially contacted Sessions' representatives prior to Kidd opting to pass on a three-year, $9 million offer from Dallas and instead agreeing to a similar deal to join the New York Knicks.

After Kidd reached his decision to move on, the Mavs again reached out to Sessions, the 26-year-old point guard that was traded from Cleveland to the Lakers at the trade deadline last season. Sessions, the source said, is seeking a starting job and security.

The source said another round of talks with the Mavs are set for Friday.

It's been a rough summer for both the Mavericks and Sessions. Dallas has lost Jason Terry to Boston and Jason Kidd to New York. They couldn't entice Deron Williams to head down to Texas and they couldn't land Steve Nash either. They're looking perilously close to striking out on any of the major players and might have to settle on their backup plans, like Sessions, who is definitely a backup plan.

Meanwhile Sessions has lost his potential starting spot with the Lakers with the trade that brought Steve Nash to Los Angeles. If he's not willing to return in a backup role, Sessions will now have to try and find a new basketball team that will allow him the chance to start, and Dallas might just be that spot.
