Steve Nash To Lakers: Reaction To Trade Depends On Perspective

The Los Angeles Lakers provided the fireworks on this July 4, as they are on the verge of acquiring Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns for four draft picks in a sign-and-trade deal for the free agent point guard. Reaction to the deal has varied depending on the perspective.

Jared Dudley, who was a teammate of Nash in Phoenix for four years, had nothing but praise for the two-time MVP. "Steve Nash has not only been a the Best but the most unselfish player I ever played with. I only wish him the Best. He's deserves everything," Dudley said in a tweet on Wednesday. "(Nash) as made many players millions.Only fitting to trade to a team that has a chance to win the ship and pay what he deserves."

Ric Bucher of ESPN noted, "So dealing Lamar Odom to Dallas for zilch finally pays off, since it's his trade exception, presumably, used to take in Nash," taking some of the sting out of last offseason's bizarre move.

Alex Kennedy of Hoops World tweeted, "Steve Nash chose the Los Angeles Lakers over the New York Knicks, according to source. Kobe Bryant recruited him."

As SB Nation Arizona pointed out, the end of the Nash era in Phoenix to the longtime rival Lakers was too bitter a pill to swallow: "Ugliest ending to a great marriage."

Ben Rosales of Lakers blog Silver Screen and Roll noted, "So, Jim Buss has now traded for Chris Paul AND Steve Nash? Can we safely say that he deserves a LOT more praise now?"
