According to a tweet from Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears, the Lakers are pushing hard to land Magic center Dwight Howard and are meeting with the Magic today.
Spears adds that the Lakers are still looking for a long-term commitment from Howard, which is what has hindered past negotiations between the two teams.
The Lakers have been connected to Howard since the beginning of his trade rumors early last season. The Lakers have the best player available to the Magic in Andrew Bynum but with one year left on his deal, Bynum could put the Magic in the same position they are in now with Howard if he doesn't commit long-term to the team.
The Lakers have already added Steve Nash to the fold and, if they were to pull off a Howard deal, without surrendering Pau Gasol, they could be looking at a top four of Kobe Bryant, Howard, Nash and Gasol. The NBA isn't ready for a juggernaut of that magnitude. Even the Miami Heat would be jealous of a top-four of that caliber.
But as it has been the entire time with Howard talks, nothing is in stone until it's, well, in stone.
